Is Nexus mods blacklisted on Steam?
Yesterday, I made a thread asking "is it better to use Steam workshop compared to Nexus in M&B: Bannerlord" and I was banned from the forum for making a topic that is unrelated to the game. I contacted support, while they lifted the ban because it was excessive, they said instead of being off-topic, I was actually banned for breaking the Steam rules and guidelines by talking about Nexus mods.

I did not put up any links to Nexus, merely mentioning it twice in my post.

Anyone else has similar experience? If Nexus is actually blacklisted on Steam, before the post is removed/I'm banned from here, I would love to know WHY. It's just a modding website, Steam has its own workshop feature which is the same. It's not like it's some shady 3rd party resellers for key using stolen credit cards etc. So I don't understand this restriction.

Was it Steam Support or game mods?

If it was game mods, they may have rules against mentioning Nexus.

Steam support manages Bannerlord forum, so it's them.

While there may be rules against mentioning nexus like the user above me said, using mods from nexus itself is not bannable unless it's some cheat mod that you use in a game that has VAC secured servers for multiplayer.

Using mods from nexus for single-player usage is allowed, i had 300 mods in fallout new vegas when i used to play that years ago and never got hit by steam for it either.. I've modded cyberpunk with well within the range of 70-100 mods from nexus and nothing happens here either..

As long as you use it for single-player only games only, you're good to go.

Weird. They don't have a rule about mentioning nexus mods as a general forum rule.

I haven't seen any official rules about mentioning Nexus Mods.

Haven't seen them myself either, but it was years ago where i last checked it so idk if it's still the same now as it was back then.. And considering using nexus mods on steam is allowed to this day, i don't see the point of rules being made that doesn't allow people on the forums to mention nexus.

I see people talking about Nexus mods in Bethesda forums all the time. It's not generally banned. Certain mods might be, if only because discussion of them turns into raging flamewars.
ok yeah that's weird, don't know what the support meant by breaking the Steam rules and guidelines with my nexus topic then. There was no arguing whatsoever, nor about specific mods. It was just a general question asking about whether steam workshop is better than Nexus, and got 3 informative replies, that's it.

Didn't you have this topic before? Why didn't you contact Steam support over it?

that's the response I got from contacting support (that my topic regarding Nexus broke Steam rules and guidelines), which confused me even more than before, hence the new topic.

Because they lifted my ban, I selected "this solved my issue", and that just closed the whole covo so I didn't get the chance to ask them to clarify how this broke the rules and guideline

Steam doesn't have a ban, nor against nexus mods, if there is a mistake you ask support to lift the ban, unless the game dev set rules against nexus mods which I doubt.

And yes game mods/devs can ban you from their said game forum, it doesn't required Steam support to do this at all, and known for years some game mods/dev can be trigger happy when comes to certain things.

So just to reconfirm are you 110% sure it wasn't game dev/mod that ban you, even they can reply to your ban messages. Support wouldn't reply to you unless you submit a manual ticket asking for answers, support can give reasons in ban message as well, but again they wouldn't reply.

I see, then yeah all he has to do is contact support to resolve the issue, it's likely got trigger happy support that need reminder, if take it to ticket, someone takes a look into it.

yeah I talked to support and they lifted the ban, but they clarified that I got banned for breaking rules and guidelines by talking about nexus mods... which is what made me post this thread, trying to understand if there is actually such a rule. It seems the consensus here is that there isn't. So I'm not sure if the support guy I talked to is trying to cover for that crazy moderator that banned me for no reason or something else.
Either way, don't think I will ever know for sure. Thanks to y'all for your input.

Don't worry there always that "one guy" that does wrong on the job.

Example I had a support try to warn me because I talk about upgrading to windows 10 is free for windows 7 & 8 users months ago, and I had to issue a ticket which I got reply, and he was confuse why I was even warn for such of thing, and told me he was gonna sort it out with them so doesn't happen again.

Another example years ago with blizzard tried to recover my kid account, 1st support place lock, and ban because I couldn't use battery power 2FA keychain they sold that died which made no sense, and making 2nd ticket solve the issue and got free wow time for it because of the misunderstanding.
