Best Zombie Games
OK, it's all very subjective. But maybe I missed some that I would really enjoy, so all suggestions welcome.

A couple of caveats about my favourites - I don't really like 'grind'. I don't play the game for 80 hours, then pump in another 800 hours just to get the shiniest cod-piece in the shop.

I also tend towards action games over strategy, though I like both.

With that said:

Number 1
For me - the number one Zombie game is 'Dying Light 2' - no real contest.
Great story, graphics, gameplay, music, sound.

It has great variety, and leads you through the story gradually, revealing areas and new equipment so you never get bored and always have new things to do, and new equipment to play with.
For those that want to grind the end game - I don't think you'll be disappointed - they have extras and DLC to cater for you.

Number 2
Not surprisingly, 'Dying Light 1' comes in as my second choice, as long as you get the DLC that includes the buggy to drive (The Following I think it's called).

People will argue forever about which is better, DL1 or DL2, and I reckon it will probably depend on which one you played first - for me I played DL2 first, then tried DL1. They do play a little differently despite many similarities, but the second game wins out for me.
Paragliding beats sand buggy every time.

Number 3
Now it gets tricky, and for me it is a tie between the action game 'Days Gone', and the slightly more strategic base building game 'State of Decay 2'.

Days Gone is great - you get to ride a bike around, and deal with bigger swarms of zombies. Explore different areas, and I found the story interesting. Just not quite as much fun as the Dying Light games.
And if you like to really 'grind' for the top level equipment, then the Dying Light games are your best bet.

If base building strategy is more your deal, where you manage a team of characters, and it really matters when they die, then State of Decay 2 is excellent and compellingly addictive.
There are not so many maps, but you can replay them in a variety of ways at different difficulty levels and using different bases that all have different strengths and weaknesses.
I didn't think I'd like it, but the number of hours I have played it seems to have proven me wrong!!!

And then there are so many others to choose from:

Project Zomboid springs to mind - but for me, the lack of a manual save would possibly make it too frustrating! I could be proven wrong however.

Anyone else with some suggestions that they can't believe I have missed?

I somewhat enjoyed B4B and it was amazing to see crowd pile simulation in WWZ but L4D still takes the coop zombo crown to me.

I recommend you search the store with tag "zombie", then sort by review.

Dead Rising and Zombie Army are a bit too 'arcadey' for me, but to each their own.

Left4Dead is up there for those who want to really scratch a co-op itch.

The game I can't believe I forgot and no one else has mentioned(?) is:

It's a bit old now, and a bit linear - but it's still looks pretty good, and is one of the greatest game stories ever. The characters and dialogue are all top notch. Get it on discount and I don't think anyone could regret it!

I haven't played it yet but If you search YouTube, people are raving about this game. I bought it on sale when it was $4.99

So it will probably go down to that price again during the Steam Winter Sale.
