Right, agreed.
I use Dark mode whenever I can (i.e. if the app/website supports it).
Such as for Windows 10, MS Office, MS Visual Studio, Viber, Skype, FB Messenger, Signal, Telegram, Gmail (website) and so on. :)
Of course, Steam's forums are nicely black (dark blue?) too. :)
Wholeheartedly agree and wish everyone else saw it that way. But we literally live in Idiocracy so...
for new user - yes, Linux Mint (Debian based) would be perfect start.
btw, you can do that on your own pace. you can install your Linux to virtualbox drive and gradually install apps, customize as you see fit. revert changes if something goes wrong.
once you're happy with the result you can convert it to normal disk partition and boot from it.
I always suggest this way to people who wants to install Arch for the first time :) you will have step-by-step guidance in another window vs being alone with terminal.
Fedora is the other one I like but after dabbling with it a bit. I think I'll mostly use it for the old desktop for when my sister comes over and need a computer to use.
I would say if Microsoft lost their ways with Windows 8.0 and 8.1, Windows 10 was a clear success so they went back on track with it. :)
Also, you said you were "trying to transition"?
Why just trying, what is stopping you to fully commit to Linux?

Except for the millions of people who literally can't.
