750 Mbps download speed but only getting 10 MB/s for download. for the love of god help.

That's actually correct.

Mbps is different than MB/s. The conversion(IIRC) is about 10Mbps = 1MB/s.

Wait, yeah. I did the math wrong.

It could just be the connecting to Steams servers, Wi-Fi vs Ethernet, your ISP throttling, etc. There's a lot of factors that could knock it down.

I think we're missing something here. First there has been a bit of misinformation supplied to you by the people in this thread. 750 Mbps = 93.75 MB/s maximum. Anyone can see this with a quick google search: https://www.google.com/search?q=convert+750+Mbps+to+MBps

Now that aside: Where are you seeing 10 MB/s or 12 MB/s? Are you referring to when you install games in the Steam client you are seeing these speeds?

Also: I would suggest you go to https://www.speedtest.net/ and do a run. First verify that you are actually able to get the advertised 750 Mbps speed with your computer first so we can establish that your computer is capable of doing it then we can look in to other things.

But you didn't post the actual MB/s speed that the OP asked for based on their internet speed. That's why I wrote my comment. Also no one needs to do math anymore. Just ask google. It will do all basic math for us (and even several algebraic equations too).

Knowing how to do the math is still very important.

Regardless, he knows roughly the numbers he should be getting. The issue is why download through Steam are being throttled so much.

This is a common misconception with Steam that many people don't understand. Steam is not "Just Downloading" when we "Download" a game. Steam is actually installing the game while it is saying it is "Downloading" in the steam client. This means that if the OP's storage device (mechanical drive, SSD, etc) is most likely being overloaded to 100% usage trying to install the game from steam while "Downloading" it. They can verify this with task manager. If this is the case then it has nothing at all to do with their internet speed and everything to do with their storage drive: Their storage drive they are trying to install the game to can not keep up with installing the game fast enough to also run at the OP's full internet speed at the same time.

OP, its not likely what you want to hear, but.... i suggest throttling steams download bandwidth as it will destroy your bandwidth, which for whatever reason...makes the downloads slower than they should.

i simply throttled the download speed on steam to about 40MB of my my 50+MB's speed (400/40) and havent had much issue with download speed afterwards as it seems to hit my limit majority of the time (unless ofc the download server im using is being overloaded, as for the rest (copying, verifying, decryption, patching and verifying again.... that stuff has some issues, but seems to be working well recently, though it could get slow again with issues.

that being said, download speed and all the other nonsense it does when you download and install, or update.... has been an issue for a very long time.

if you sit and watch your game updates, or downloads, you can see when its downloading, when it switches to the other stuff, then to installing and then verifying the installation.

having a brand new nvme/m.2 or w/e wont help as much as people tell you either, with all the nonsense steam does for games (updated, installing, ect..) its going to take ages and most people would rather argue with you over the issue, blame your isp, your internet, or your pc, instead of allowing the blame on steam..... that or tell you to go do something while you wait, which is ridiculous.
