"Joke games" are a cancer feasting on steam and video game culture.
Edit:

So generally, there are no need for Steam to actually filters out and games. If you prefer to be spoon fed only with the best, you can always pay for these service as there are plenty of caliber game reviewer. As for Steam, it is simply an online eStore platform.

This has merit, and sure these games are going to exist but what a filtering option? If steam is going to releaseing games like this on the store and just put whatever they can get out there into people hands then they need to create a better labeling system. With these types of games the user created tags get applyed like simulation and stratgey, and there's no way to exclude them. There is no user created ironic tag or satrical tag that I can filter out because I'm tired of seeing games like this. It's like when I joined steam it was california at the begining of the gold rush. You could just look at the river and find gold. But now you need to set up an over complex mine shaft in order to dig down and find the vain of good games.

My point of view is not on the ones making a point developed by indie developers with a thought porcess and plan in mind. it's the ones making money by using something that is popular.

ah my bad I jumped

well I will tell you what, you fix the marketing to the young and impressionable with promises of hyper sexualized situations and high action with hero compexes problem in the AAA market and then we can talk about the indie market. sounds good?

or maybe people should be allowed to market as they please. there is that crazy idea too

I really agree with this. just give me the ability to filiter out things I already know I'm not going to like and we'll be good. If I don't have to sort though things that I know aren't enjoyable to me then everyone wins. Whats the point of steam trying to sell me a game I'm not going to buy? They might see a spike as people find it easier to find games that they WILL buy rather then having to sift though the majority of games they know their not going to like.

Original post:

Please steam store developers please stop supporting "Joke" games." These kind of games are a cancer eating at video game culture and the steam store. These people who make games like "Watch paint dry" I understand that people should be able to have fun the way they want,

Originally it was about satire and irony. something being funny because it shouldn't be fun or making fun of something the game developer thought ridiculous. goat simulator was a joke game that pokes fun at games like euro truck simulator. I realized the point as being ironic. Then they figured out it was a good way to make money so they spammed as many as possable. These games support being buggy and being unfinished. These games support being pointless and simple. These games support spending 2-10 bucks for about 10 minutes to an hour of enjoyable game time.(Before the joke wears out) These games support not having a narritive ,charactors, or plot.

There NEEDS to be quality control beyond someone asking the question "Can we make money on this?" Every game you release says something about steam and who and what it supports and these games are smearing feces on your name in my eyes at least.

I understand that this forum post will most likely not change anything. That you will continue to focus on making money and pushing as many of these types of games onto your customers as much as possable. I mean hell I've down voting those types of games many many times but still they show up on my steam store viewing queue "Because this game is new on steam."

What about you reader? What are your thoughts on this growing trend of "Joke" games? Do you support them as a way for small developers to get their name and abilitys out there? Do you condone them as being a necessary evil of steam realeasing whatever they want to, and there's nothing we as customers can do? I'm interested in what the majority of steam users think about this because if enough people find it fun then who am I to stand in these games way. Who am I to question the general development of gaming culture.

But I hope and pray to whatever God or entity that might be out there that these games are just a fad

on a level of who impacts the most gamers by false advertising who has more of an negitive impact? indies or ubisoft?
Is it thetorical really? sure Ubisoft, Valve etc

Oh OP end up asking for more storepage filters. That make sence (not thread title though). I support that (though, I'd more likely quit spending money here), but that's Valve and you can't really count on something to be changed to good [fast enough].

I dont understand what you just wrote.

anyway, I would like some focus on my question. specifically ubisoft is my question
Ubisoft (and alike) developers must be avoided by gamers for their (MASSIVE) false advertisement and low quality/price ratio of their products.
(Wich is that hard to understand part of my texts above, I don't get it?)

Well, i can't be judge on that, cause how would I even meaaure that impact ? And you have changed target for that impact from community (gamers) to imdustry (devs and publishers along with media etc) so quit. I'm not even sure what do you mean now.

What I meant to say was those big publishers keep producing their franchise and similar games, spending fair money amounts on marketing and they then include those spendings into sell price. They have subscrivers, season pass buyers and just fanboys to keep their machine going no matter of quality their products AND they need that machine going constantly.
Indie (independent) devs on the other hand may produce crap, but they can't hide that fact behind massive advertisement. Some of them, also could produce amazing or even revolutionary games, based on creative idea, not on bufget.

yeah that is avoiding the question because you know why I am asking it. weight matters and you know it.

I know your position now. You will spend days, weeks maybe even months talking about the injustices served to the industry by a game that costs .99 cents and has 400 reviews and when you get time sometime next year you might spend 10 maybe 20 mins talking about ubisoft.

yeah I get it

False advertising from an indie is no different from false advertising from a major company. Both are crimes given equal weight under the law. As the major company gets beat down by the law for false advertisement, this is only a good thing for gamers. When the big guys get taken down, it shows all the other rats that they can't get away with it either.

but at least we can come to the agreement (I think anyway) that jokes are not offensive and need to be buried form the gaming industry

I know a lot more than you think or give me credit for.

anyway...at least we can come to one agreement.

Jokes are ok to have in the gaming industry and that there is no reason to censor a game because it makes fun of killing cats (as an example) and that its ok for me to like games that you dont like AND you dont even have to try and understand why

No. You don't. Go ♥♥♥♥ yourself. I treat the indies the same way I treat the bigs. You think I don't. Go ♥♥♥♥ yourself. You want to argue against something I've not said. You want to argue about something that you've only constructed yourself in your head. Go ♥♥♥♥ yourself.

Huh? Yesterday I watched Steam broadcasting of GTA V and person was playing one of the storyline quests. They have guy tied to a chair at some basement and the mission was to torture him. While character was pulling victim's teeth, two guys in chat was commenting how fun that is and what player should do next.. Is that an indie title or mainstream ? Does this quest make game bad? Though, you can do car stunt jumps in there, fly hopters etc. Maybe that you do in game is somehow reflects what you are (as well as what games you play), idk..idk

just dont use steam to find the game you like, becasue a lot of good game will never be on steam, and all games can be found outside of steam on the web.

for example, I would never had the chance to find the game "black desert online" if I had searched for it only on steam.

or mech warrior online or blade and soul or camelot unchained ect ect....

and game like poop simulation cant not be found via google, unless you search for poop simulation

like it will never come up if you are searching for simulation games

however, if I dont know about Factorio which is a great game how would I know to look for it?

that was the pre-2011 problem. I almost gave up gaming completely during those 'cant find anything other than crap AAA games' years
