Playing the minority card in this context seems very disingenuous. Yes, likely over a million gamers will be affected, and it really is unfortunate that Valve has decided it's not financially feasible to re-create their framework, or to create a separate platform which would work with every obsolete operating system. And as much as the situation sucks (and it does) it is understandable.
Antivirus will not patch vulnerabilities in an OS.
Welcome to digital distribution with DRM authentication. This is the tradeoff for the benefits, features, and convenience the gaming community as a whole decided they wanted.
True. It was for a long time, now it's not. If money is the only thing keeping you from your Steam client you'd need to choose a different free OS.
Generally if it works on 7 it should work on 10. In some cases (Max Payne for example) it was actually easier to get working on 10.
Nah, you're not. You're just a frustrated gamer because of something out of your control, and that is relatable. No call for anyone to be disrespectful, on any side of an argument.
May as well ask "why should valve keep moving their platform forward to meet the evolving needs of their product and their customers" and the answer should be obvious. It's unfortunate that these changes don't work for everyone, and there will be some who are unwilling or unable to keep up.
Nobody is "defending" the terms we said we agree to. Nobody says "Oh yeah I love this legalese, give me more!" But it's there, and we SAID we agree, even if we did not, or if we ignored it and just clicked the little box so we could play our game. And that thing we said we agree with had the relevant information of what we could expect to happen with this product.
Yep, XP was great. And you continued drinking that sweet Windows Koolaid, just like I've been doing since I caved in and bought a Windows PC in the 90s after being very anti-wondows for years, but it gave me what I wanted so I've been using it ever since.
If people seem harsh, it's because this is a public forum where people can anonymously say what they want, so let's just say we're not always seeing the best of humanity. And this whole thing has become a polarizing issue with people on both sides going to extremes, so when people come in with statements like "Valve is stealing my games" "Valve has no right to do this" "Valve owes a refund for my entire library" and so on, it's normal for others to want to correct what they see as misinformation, some with less tact than others.
They gave us 4 years beyond the official end of Windows 7, and nearly a year notice of this change. Maybe there is more that Valve could be doing, maybe by the time they end Windows 10 they'll find a better solution. But I wouldn't count on it.
At least this thread is better than watching the news and giving me more hope so have my award nova.
You have had more than enough time to figure out how to do this and you were even given a free upgrade. You didn't take the free upgrade and you procrastinated and waited until almost the last moment. You created this situation.
You also signed the ToS by creating your Steam Account
And again, in the End......
No one cares, as with Win XP
Fixed the quote.
Either use supported OS, or you can just choose to block yourself from your own games because you don't want to use supported OS, it's not hard to figure out.
Cool story, but account doesn't go anyway, you choosing to block yourself from your own games is your choice, either use supported OS, or pound sand that just how it is for last 16 years...
For wanting to keep the games he earned, bought and owned, being blocked or in essence taken away, for art not return.
For SHAME, Mr Newell
The truth is - small amount of money for entertainment
The Reality is - Not Updating your Operating system for 100 dollars will cost you 5000 dollars
in Goods.
The Reasoning - Everything Costs money and the older it gets the more money you have to put into it maintain it, Steam is no exception.
The Fact - That over the 20 years steam has been active i have had to pay for Internet service to access steam, usally a average of 60 dollars a month if not more, so 60 dollars x 20 years (20X12= 240 months x 60 dollars = 240x60 = 14,400 dollars for internet in 20 years
let me give it to you straight
computer cost = 1500 and lasts about 5 years
internet costs to use it = 3000 dollars in 5 years average
Steam cost to use it = 0 in 20 years
Updating your Windows Operating system to use all this stuff = Priceless.
Eh, OPs been around long enough to know what to expect.
Its that easy
I wish it was that easy, but moderation seems to pick on some, and not others. Accordingst to them, three quarters of those replying here, should be banned, and if it was me, would have been.
Though i don't understand how someone complaning hes gonna lose thousands of dollars worth of games is trolling anyone. Though the responses sure have been. What a mess.
And btw.... he doesnt lose anything
HE signed a Contract creating his Account, not Valves problem if he breach said Contract
But to who i am talking about, its just 2 People that get a insane mental breakdown about stopping a not supported since 20 Years old OS
