Steam forces Argentinians and Turks to convert their currencies to USD or buy games now
Steam has decided to cancel other countries currency to convert to USD. Game like MW3 costs 79 USD which is more expensive than its homeland Murica. Turkish people do not earn that much. You can feed the whole family with 79 USD for 2 weeks. Steam is becoming extreme these days. I also have like 1200 lira in my steam wallet. Steam is forcing me to spend it all to buy games before 20 nov before they convert lira to USD which is in historical low and i get nothing in USD. So i need to spend it all to buy games now before my wallet credits becomes worthless when its converted to USD. I do not like people who force me to buy something. This is a really bad experience. This is not how it should work. I will never trust steam anymore to buy steam gift cards and save prepaid credits in my account. Steam really made a bad move and i dont think Turks are going to accept this. Instead they are going to crack more illegal content like cracked games. Because i know Turks very well. Steam is dead in Turkey

I wish Steam would force you to use a single thread instead of spamming a dozen new ones every day.

It says many Turks are disagree with this policy. Steam is forcing Turks to convert lira to USD which is now historical low.

Well those are the ones you can blame for the current situation, not Steam. Valve and developers like to be paid in actual money that puts food on the table and keeps a roof over their heads.

MWIII is ₺1999,99 = $70.82 and not $79. In the US, it is $69.99 + taxes.

And I wouldn't use Activision as an example anyways.

You aren't really understanding what is happening. They are converting the currency to USD and also making their own region. So just because the price is in USD doesn't mean it will be the same price that the game is priced in US regions......

Yeah umm that is the entire reason why. Instead of listing the game in Lira which is constantly dropping requiring devs to constantly update prices its listed in USD which is stable. It doesn't mean its priced the same as it is in the US though

Another user with lots of bluster and claims, who overvalues low value customers using a near worthless currency.

Steam will survive just fine with fewer Turk customers. Turks who move to other platforms will do just fine too, until those platforms follow suit of course.

Will they convert ukraine hryvnia too? It's really as worthless as Argentine and Turkish currency. And not even from a real country anymore. I really hate to see those double standards everywhere.

I've been using Steam since 2009. I will continue to play the purchased games, but it looks like I won't buy anything new.

This is an erroneous interpretation of the situation. Game developers and publishers set the prices for their games. They have decided they want to get paid in stable currency with some value, not unstable currency with low value.

Another user has already pointed out that this is incorrect.

I mean, sorry, but oh well? Your country has been in an economic crisis since 2018 and you're ranting at Steam because game developers and publishers want to be paid in stable currency with some worth, which unfortunately does not describe the Turkish lira at this time.

Not really.

1200 lira = $42.43 USD right now. Maybe I'm misreading, but it seems like you think the 1200 lira is worth more than it actually is.

Is there someone in the room with you actually forcing you to buy something? I doubt it. It would probably be a savvy move to use it now before your money continues to plummet in value over the next few weeks and ends up being worth even less USD than it currently is (which you even acknowledged so??) but if your misguided principles are worth more to you then it is what it is.

Dude 1 Turkish lira is worth a fraction of 1 USD or 1 Euro right now. I'm not sure what you expected would happen but you're pointing the finger at the wrong people.

Whether you or anyone else accepts it or not is irrelevant, it's happening and it will continue to be this way until Turkey can put its economy back on track. You'll have to accept the reality of that sooner or later.

Good luck with that.

Argentina and Turkey currency has fallen much more and why this happened for those two regions while Ukraine currency has remained stable this past year.

The currency for these two regions are not direct USD prices as steam will recommend a reduced cost because of the economies in these two areas.

LATAM - USD (which includes Argentina) and MENA - USD (which includes Turkey). We recommend a reduced USD price in these new regions, and have updated the suggestions in our pricing tools to reflect this.

Erd-ogan did it on purpose to make a perception change for the people in the World as if "The Tur-key you know of since 1923 doesn't exist, but there is a NEW one now that I built". His giant palace in the Capital City was also built due to this very reason.

Perception Management.
has someone said... its not steam.... post title should be changed...

its how much the dev/pubs want to get paid for their games in your places..
