One of the main problems with artificial planned obsolescence is that there is nothing obsolete about Windows 7. Windows 10 is a copy of 7 in essence but not in function, does not support any new hardware that 7 cannot, does not offer ANY benefits over 7. Other than handing control of your PC to Microsoft, there is nothing better about Windows 10.
Windows 11 is even worse, forces UEFI and Secured Boot, aka let me see you modify the way Windows 11 function to suit your needs or wants. Windows 11 demands new hardware to function, but still offers no benefits over Windows 7, other than offer a Linux/iApple looking desktop. A little customization done with apps. and your Windows 7 can look the same.
Meantime, Microsoft selling off tons of Lists of Information to governments & Corporations alike, about your usage & habits. While restricting what you can do with and on your "device" & profiting from selling every new "version" of the OS.
almost all of this is wrong it doesn't take much reading to notice this

January 11, 2024 steam update just installed and launched on Windows 7. This message was typed and sent in Steam (Steam Version: 1704936806 ; Steam Client Build Date: Wed, Jan 10 5:03 PM UTC -08:00) on my Windows 7 machine...... Annoying red bar at top says "Steam will stop running on Windows 7 in 0 days.". Has said that for a few days now, yet it is an untrue statement as it is still running. Better luck next year Steam, maybe you'll figure out how to stop my machine from running your software then.

Give it about 2 months, then see if it's still all good

aw yes the two more weeks mentality. the original reasoning for the stopping of steam updates on windows 7 was because new chrome versions were not supporting/running it. however the newest chrome does still support windows 7 still as proven by the project supermium which can be found on github. all that needs to be done it to change a few compile flags in chromium source and those new versions compile and run on perfectly windows 7. turns out google did this on purpose to prevent older windows from running newer browsers to try and force upgrades out of people. unfortunately for them its not going to work.
Chrome isn't CEF.

I said 2 months, not 2 weeks. I say that because when Steam dropped support for Windows XP & Vista, it was the same situation. People went into hysterics and complained but then January 1st rolled around and everything was still cool and working for them so they felt they were in the clear. But then at some point in March, Steam pushed out some sort of update that blocked XP & Vista systems from accessing the client.

I could be wrong but that will most likely happen again, where in March an update comes through the pipeline and Windows 7 & 8 systems are blocked from the client.
lol, this is still hot topic?
you guys do know windows 7 support has ended long ago right? now even security patch won't be applied to it. so windows 7 as os is use at your own risk now. there's no way you can expect any application to continue support it.
if you guys think you have right to "demand" steam to continue supporting win7, then i should have rights to demand support of dos or windows 3.1

You don't have to go to Windows 10 or 11, but you can't stay on Windows 7.
ok

Also a good reason to block chromium APIs in Firefox, if you know what you're doing.
Thanks for that info.

no its not. there's just no reason to use windows 7. from 2009. in 2024. 15 years later.

actually that would't solve your problem anyways because everyone is dropping windows 7 support

Really, long loyal customers should be catered to, they spent lots of money and supported company giants such as Steam and deserve the support back.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Steam is far from the only program that is dropping support for Windows 7. You are free to stay on a dead OS, but don't expect people to cater to you.

Fewer and fewer things are getting updated with Window 7 in mind and within the next few years i would expect nothing will be.

Really, long loyal customers should be catered to, they spent lots of money and supported company giants such as Steam and deserve the support back. Steam would not be in the financial position it finds themselves without Windows 7 buyers.

A basic offline legacy menu to access all games is fair to demand.
So, I started using Steam with Windows ME. I can bet that I have spent more money on Steam than you have. Does that mean I get to be catered to? No. Your operating system is part of your computer, Valve didn't buy it for you. Just like they didn't buy your PC for you. You chose to use Steam, without reading what that entailed and now are paying the price for that. Which is, you agreed to keep your PC up to date as per the SSA.

Any money spent on Steam is irrelevant.

Demand? They didn't release a legacy client for any other old OS. They will not do it for Windows 7 either. If it's offline, how are you going to download your games?

Windows 7 just got an update three days ago, how is three days a long time ago? Windows 7 has been getting updates every single month from Microsoft for 14+ years.
see:
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5034169
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/january-9-2024-security-and-quality-rollup-for-net-framework-3-5-1-for-windows-embedded-7-standard-and-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1-kb5033899-11de4a3b-344f-4eb3-b3a7-d6e12a2f7727
its says right there its specifically for WINDOWS SERVER 2008 and WINDOWS EMBEDDED 7 STANDARD. which i can tell you are both VERY MUCH in use, as the game i've been tkaing to recently (Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6RR BTW) is running on a:
Core i3-3550S,
8GB 2400mhz,
GTX 650Ti/GTX 680
250GB SATA HDD
Running Windows Embedded Standard 7.
without updates to this WINDOWS Operating system installed on this Namco System ES3, it would be a security hellhole with all kinds of people either trying to steal information or cheat in the game (not sure entirely what kind of method would be used to do this but it can and will happen if its updates are gone, especially remotely) but these cabinets are
A) Entertainment
B) being handled by customers and NEED to be secured
in no way does YOUR PERSONAL WINDOWS 7 COMPUTER do anything warranting these updates. (yes you need to be secure too, but that is ENTIRELY on YOU, not Microsoft) thus the arguing FOR WINDOWS 7 (From 2009, its 2024) is pointless. just use SteamOS or any linux distribution and stop crying.
