Steam has been Steam - neither kind nor rude nor anything.
They are a business - a business that is subject to Exchange Rates.
Its on the devs to set the prices beyond Steam's baseline.
If people can't figure that out - well that's on them.
Shop somewhere else - or wait - or keep yelling - won't change the facts.
Well, if that's the case... the issue is strictly between STEAM (VALVe) and the Developer/Publisher.
The conversion rate in Steam wallets for Argentine users (ARS to USD) was 370 ARS per dollar. So, if the developer sets or set the price in ARS, for example: 22200 ARS, and STEAM uses a conversion rate (I'll use the conversion rate that STEAM used to convert ARS wallets to USD) of 370 ARS per USD... then the user from the Argentine store would be paying 60 USD (22200 ARS / 370 ARS = 60 USD).
If the developer/publisher is receiving 5 cents... someone is pocketing 59.95 USD...
(And even if the conversion rate were 1000 ARS, the developer should receive 15 USD ((22200 ARS / 1000 ARS) - 35% from STEAM)...
Now, for example, the price of "7 Days to Die" was around 300 ARS (According to STEAMDB), and on discount, it went down to about 68 ARS. That developer/publisher was receiving crumbs... Now it's at 6 USD = 2220 ARS (6 USD * 370 ARS).
Another reverse example, the price of "SCUM." At the beginning of January 2023, it was 400 ARS and increased in August to 6870 ARS (6870 ARS / 370 ARS = 18.56 USD). Now it's at 20 USD = 7400 ARS (20 USD * 370 ARS).
Obviously, all this without considering the taxes applied to Argentine users by the Argentine government, which is 150% of the value. For example, in the CURRENT case of "SCUM," the Argentine user would be paying 20000 ARS for "SCUM" (20 USD * 1000 ARS [Official Dollar Rate + 155% taxes]).
This sounds a little contradictory. Isn't the entire complaint of the issue that people would have to pay 22200 pesos for the work? Who incurs the foreign transaction and currency conversion fees in what you just described?
Javier Milei, the elect president of my country, Argentina, mentioned how much he wants to dollarize argentine economy.
Bleh
No. The complaint arises from the fact that they changed the currency in the store to USD, and we now have exactly the same price as in the USA store, and on top of that, it's restricted. So now, the Argentine user, instead of paying 22k pesos (60 USD according to STEAM conversion) + taxes, has to pay 60k pesos + taxes. This is because the majority of developers/publishers did not change their prices and regionalize them.
STEAM, in this region, accepts ONLY (for now) cards of Argentine origin, and when you make a purchase, STEAM receives the payment automatically. There is no intermediary (as it used to be in the past or as it happens in Brazil where the intermediary is "BoaCompra"). So, I repeat, if the developer who priced their game at 22,000 ARS and received 5 cents should complain to STEAM because they were robbed of 59.95 USD, and the exchange rate in Argentina, used by the market, was never at 1100 ARS (22,000 ARS * 0.05 USD = 1100 ARS).
And? I didn't miss it, it just doesn't matter. We're on Steam, who cares what other stores are doing?
Nah, you just don't like someone stating the facts and the reality of the situation.
Oh no, some rando troll from Pakistan who hasn't played a game in over 4 years got upset about the truth and blocked me, I'm devastated.
wish epic was smart to make profiles and fourms instead of free 999 games, you can't relay on family friendly louncher for 15+y old users.
Exactly. I'm only buying must-have games on Steam that are not on Epic Games from now on. Epic Games offer good value. I recommend everyone, whether you're based in Turkey or Argentina.
You didn't finish your homework.
The price didn't change - its just a different currency.
You'd be paying the same price even if it was in your currency.
The publishers set the price - not Steam - Steam uses a baseline - if the publisher refuses to adjust it... that's on them.
Same. Haven't bought a single game on this Autumn sale on Steam and wont be buying
So you admit you plan to steal the games. Instead of waiting a few years for a xmas sale. If the lira sucks so bad, Then buy God of war in christmas 2025.
