New prices for Turkiye (not Turkey anymore) is another horrible decision Steam will make
Well for long years Turkish players are the main audience for almost all Competitive & PVP and also any kind games. Thousands of Turkish players played millions of hours of so many games while we are paying way too much for gears, skins and etc. And we ignored by steam and other game developers for years by not getting any Turkish language support for any games even we are the top players of that game and the most players who plays those games were Turkish. Well, I know english enough but it doesnt matter. You should be respectful to TURKS to give them their language support even in voice of the game but instead the voice, we didnt get any subtitle or menu translations in Turkish for most games. Like I writed, I can name those games which main base of players are from Turkiye but no Turkish language support. So while this is ridiculous we saw more cringy things. For example, many games, had middle-eastern language supports while even there is no players from those countries or so little of them. But when it comes to Turkiye and Turkish players, there was no recognizing and realizing how we care and love about those games, but both the developers and steam didnt give our respect, instead you ignored us. First of all, Turkiye is not a middle-eastern country. Turkish players are Asians who is living in anatolia or asia minor right now. We have our own currency, and our own language, and our own vast of thousands of players, streamers, espor players etc. You cant do this. Some middle-eastern countries are claiming they are kingslands (like jordan etc.) but we never claim anything like that so we use our own currency. You cant change the currency for Turkiye. Instead you should give an apology to us and beg for our forgiveness for all those years you didnt recognize us, you didnt give us any value, and you didnt care how much we pay for those games both with our money and also our eyes, health etc. Now I ask you to apologize from us, and put Turkish language support in all games we mostly play more than most of other countries players, and use our own currency not any others countries' else. We are Turks, we played steam games for years without our own language support, we payed for games for years, we streamed about those games, so I am against this ridiculous and horrible decision of Steam about the change of steam payment for Turkiye

There is no profit from Turkey or Argentina They could make up 50% of the user base and they'd account for 5% of the revenue.

At any rate you're kidding yourself this is something Valve is doing on their own, in a bubble, without the support of publisher/developers.

Sir, you are DELUSIONAL, and obviously you are a racists and hate arabs. You think there are more turks gamers than arabs? your out of your mind! there are 60 million turks in the world and there are nearly 500 MILLION Arabs! how did you calculate that turkey have more gamers than middle east? Are you slow bro?

There are 25 COUNTIRES that speak ARABIC, and there is only ONE country that speaks Turkish.

Even French language is more useful that Turkish language.

If anyone should apologize, its you for garbage hateful filled with nonsense lies post.

Its not conclusive, but if you look at the Steam download heat map, the stats don't seem to support your belief.

Turkey weighs in at 26.8 PB - almost as much as France.

The only significant Arab contributions are:
Saudi Arabia with 4.6PB, UAE with just under 2PB & Iraq with almost 1PB
Theres a few with around 0.5PB, but the rest are well below that.

Theres likely a fair bit of VPNing going on, but if someones breaking the Steam TOS, then they can't be counted, can they?

translating and dubbing games are not just about steam, you need to take into consideration the consoles, most gamers in the middle east are console gamers, when devs are making a game ( for all platforms) they probably have done enough research to know that this language has enough market share and a growing market to invest resources into the language.

I also believe that the heat is generated based on the region your account is set to, not where you actually from. ( not sure , but possible), and we all know the amount of people that have their accounts converted to Turkish accounts to get cheaper prices.

Im sorry to hear that but it is well known allot of profit from a game comes from these countries. But then again , think about it further why would the highest profit margins come from the worst economical countries? the answer is clear the region / wallet code abuse.
Cutting out their currency by transferring it to USD is the only way to solve this issue since 85% of people who buy it from these countries are not real residents it's constant fraudulant abuse.

You can still buy a game but it will require a fee to transfer over to USD.

It's not much Steam can do for Turkiey / Turkiyeish players... even if you change the name, it's still the same currency

However there will still be regional pricing, therefore wouldn'it it be still open to abusing via VPN? So, what will change then? I suppose there is no other way than either removing the regional pricing altogether or issuing stricter regulations about these violators' accounts by Steam via new methods.

IF, games will be bought in USD currency itself BUT NOT IN LOCAL CURRENCY AMOUNT OF USD EQUIVALENT , then this makes me feel sorry for Argentina especially, because of horrendous %100 USD cambio-tax. imho, and I doubt Steam might have already thought about, payments should still be able to be done in own currency, just in USD equivalent by that time.

What's changing is the displayed price, Turkish and Argentinian users will still pay with their own currency but their banks will have to convert the local currency into USD at the current exchange rate.
Also why do so many Turkish users over inflate their importance, when they are a very small minority in global gaming?

its because people in europe, asia and NA changed their regions to argentina and turkey in order to buy games for much much cheaper prices.

It also gave developers hard time pricing their games

also 2.8M users is not a "a very small minority". Turkish userbase is the 7th biggest userbase

Regardless of the size of the user base, the currency is still worthless.
1 Lira is equal to 0.035 USD or just under 4¢.
The Lira is expected to lose even more value in the coming years if the current Turkish leadership doesn't change.
Some Turkish users have to spend an entire months pay to buy just 1 game, when a US or EU user can buy maybe 10 or more games with one weeks pay.
Let that sink in a bit to tell you what currency game developers would prefer to be payed with.

Thats the point

this whole thing is happening because Turkish lira and argentinian paso is not only worthless but its also unstable, it forces devs to change their prices once in every month. So valve simply removed these currencies and replaced it with USD so it can be more fair

Its not about the worth of the currency, its about the stability of it.

Well this is much better and fair tbh, unfortunately

I just came across this post and I apologise on behalf of all the turks that wrote thoughtlessly. I have huge respect to Valve for carrying turkish lira for that long and letting us access the same product for less price. Yes we will be having really hard time, most of the users (including me) can't afford x20 prices, but it is tottally on our side. Turkish lira losing value day by day, politicians making it worse bla bla bla. Whatever is the reason Valve or the developers do not have to do anything. They are putting their product on market for a specific price and people who can afford will buy and others will simply dont. Complaining about it wont change anything. But also for the foreigners who are confused or annoyed by turk players' commments, I would like to say that we are kinda losing the very last thing that we can afford and that entertained us. I am sure that there will be loooots of posts about it from turks side, we know that nothing is gonna change but we are just mad and sad, sharing our pain. So please be considerate. :aunope:
