The sad and pathetic state of using Steam offline in 2023
Takes almost an entire minute to start Steam to view my Library and play my games, because the client is too stupid to realize there's no network connection. Instead it tries to log in for a entire minute before giving up. Compare it with Gog which loads in under 10 seconds and games are ready to launch instantly.

Achievements and screenshots (even locally saved ones) just don't work in offline mode. How much effort could it have been to cache them? Really, really sad at how bad the offline Steam experience is, even after all these years.

Why would achievements which have only ever been online, ever be gainable offline? Indeed Steam already does a cache system in the settings, I have mine set all the time so it exists.

Loading times happen mate, just because GOG using an outdated system compared to Steams modern one does not mean there's issues with it, hell when it logs on, despite being offline, that means its starting up.

Valve honestly seems to of figured they didnt need to make hundreds of optional quotes that a start up screen would need and I won't expect them to do so.

Odd, I disconnected my net, steam was able to load instantly in offline mode.

Loading times were better with the old client, and what the ♥♥♥♥ is that comparison? Outdated = faster?

Why the ♥♥♥♥ people defend steam so much is beyond me.

You literally said in the first part of your post that Steam's older client loaded faster then got mad at yourself that somehow ya, Outdated platforms load faster? Its almost like newer things take time to load

Same thing. Loads much quicker to offline mode than online mode, lol.

Newer things should be more optimized. If not, then you either ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up somewhere or you bloated out the program.

What an asinine argument.

Literally not how it works. If I load a newer game, it takes time to actually start up. if I load Quake 2, it would be loaded in under a minute. If I start up older steam, it will pop up quickly, if I load webbrowser (this one) up, it takes longer

Its almost like processing data takes time regardless of PC

Dude for what its worth your fighting with someone who literally dismantles PC's as a hobby and you clearly dont grasp how data-speed loading works

A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ client isn't a game. It doesn't need bloat and useless ♥♥♥♥. If that's what you did, then again, you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up as a company.

You outright refuse to acknowledge what i wrote. And what's with that flex at the end, modern PC's are so standarized that everyone can build or take them apart.

Take them apart? Oh you silly sausage, no you misunderstand what I meant by dismantle. I literally dismantle the system32 to purge the crappy Windows 10 printer bloatwear that is logged down in the OS.

Now, yes Webbrowser programs indeed take longer to load then a program, thats a known fact, there's no bloat beyond the processor power needed to start the program which is actually like a game. A unity game will use less CPU to that of a Unreal game, allowing Unity to load faster typically however both usually use the same amount of memory space.

You also pointed out the Steam Picture issue, I'm guessing you never sat the cache system in the settings? Or perhaps tried to explain why achievements would ever work offline?

Well, maybe "upgrading" wasn't such a hot ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea then, was it. All of this useless ♥♥♥♥, just to keep people sitting in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ steam store. Again, people are too lazy to realize they are being screwed.

I'm pretty sure you confused me with the OP, i don't care about the achievements or screenshots manager, online or offline.

Ah my mistake, I'm not also going to defend the change because frankly I get 2 GB's of space used, I do apologize if it seems I came after you. I do agree I dislike the change but at the same time I'm a silent type of person xD

Well, i admit, i got a bit too heated. Sorry, i just get way too annoyed at companies forcing me to do something i don't want to do.

I'm talking about being able to view achievements offline. How do you see them offline? If I use the Steam overlay, it says I need to be online to view them. The Library just doesn't even show them.
