I certainly hope that's the only reason.
The alternative motive would be that they want to make people of color look bad. And that would be even worse. It's very cynical that steam, or the organization that planned this expo, trying to make money, even though they must know they send out a bad message.
Hold on a second. politics and race are sensitive subjects.
Let's turn the tables, and let's say some organisation, with promotion within Steam, made an expo of games of White People only. And then they only show games from devs that are white and have red hair and blue eyes. Everyone would immediately see it's not about white people, but about white people with red hair.
And this is the idea I get from this event.
It's about certain race, and not about color. But they call it Game Devs of Color. The next thing they do is that they only have a selection of mediocre and bad games. As if they want to imprint in the minds that certain races cannot make good games. Which is simply not true. I am pretty sure there are Black game devs working at Rockstar or other big companies.
I think this is an evil way of making a few bucks.
Oh sure, I guess that if you offer cash or the chance to sell your game a bit more, people would participate "out of free will". But that doesn't mean this organization sends out a good message.
Joining in with the event is free.
I'm guessing you take issue with the Black voices in gaming event too, huh?
Why would I have an issue with Black Voices in gaming events?
Did you even read what I wrote?
This game event is about people of color, so not only about Black people, but people of color in general. These might include Blacks, Hispanic, Chinese, etc. All these people have color.
I think you missed the point of my posts, and i suggest you read them again.
I know what you are complaining about and who you think should be included is just another way of being ignorant towards what these type of events stand for.
The way you reply suggests that you think that certain colors, like Hispanics or oriental people don't belong in the group of People of Color. Which is either racists feelings you have, or you have another agenda.
The complain that I actually have is that there are no big titles, or good famous in the list, and I am pretty sure there are plenty of people of color working at big game companies. By showing only mediocre or bad indie games ( except for high mile taxi, because I think that is a great game), you basically send out the wrong message.
Me being Asian, I take offense to your posts and it feels like racism to me.
I'm out.
Me being a white Caucasian, I take offense to your posts.
Especially with this one:
" Why would I have an issue with Black Voices in gaming events?"
Which was pretty evil.
While I explicitly mentioned the following in my post::
" I am pretty sure there are Black game devs working at Rockstar or other big companies."
You deliberately tried to smear me with racism, while this was absolutely not the point of my posts. That's why I suggested you to read them again, before you fabricated a reply.
you will never change what racism is
no mater how hard the few of you try
it is a feeling of superiority over others simply because of their race
believing you are better than another
nothing to do with these events
