Steam sales getting worse?
I vaguely remember the big year round sales being a lot more big? was it or am I just misremembering things?

your not presenting the full picture...

2 year old game is fine and getting close to depreciation...

3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 year old games that just cycle the same pricing.... depreciated..

and even worse.... depreciated with a customer big thumbs down and booooooooo...

check the dates peoples... these sales are getting stale...

Games aren't fruit m8.
The idea that they should get cheaper as they get older is borne from an entirely different sort of market place.

fruit and being sold here... would you pay full price for a new 2019 car..

You would print out and store the software code in your garage?!

Steam was always ♥♥♥♥, along with it's sales. Anyone believing otherwise just fell for the lord gaben memes

That depends on the care and what 'fullprice' is. Also again you're talking about a product that is oestensibly subject to wear, tear, and aging.

Software is not.
Code doesn't degrade over time. And if anything the appreciation a good game only grows over time.

What you are seeing, OP, is publishers learning the purchasing habits of their clientele and adjusting their pricing and discounting strategies on it.

People seriously underestimate how much impact they've had themselves on how sales changed. But it's easier to blame stores and publishers than look in the mirror.
Bingo.
Dev/pubs learned eventually that cutting their wrists to make sales was , unsurprisingly, only hurting them in the long run. It damaged the perceived value of the game.
And some publishers are attempting to exploit that in expense of gamers. Like the ones who developed Stray.

That game still only enter sales worth 25% off at max. As if they built an AAAAA game and can not make bigger sales before 10 years after release date.

That triggered me and i will give that money to PRE-PURCHASE Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered instead.

No money for that type of "clever" pricing.

This has been disgust over and over and over. The sales are not the same because they are not needed. Those cells that had the games and the giveaways were engagement tools. Valve doesn't need to do that anymore.

It's mostly due to people not realising that pricing models of physical copies don't extend to digital copies. And that it never was the publishers dropping those prices, but the stores themselves because they needed to get rid of them for the inventory/shelf space.

Sales are important. Those that have the money to burn will pay the normal price. Most will not, however. It's that simple. As someone said, "don't like it, don't buy it". As other's have said, "don't want to sell it, don't do a decent sale". It's that simple.

That's capitalism. They think it's worth that much. If you disagree you can do without it.
There's no taking advantage oif anyone. Its just a matter of 'is this game worth that much to you the prospective buyer?"

You're never going to get someone to willingly pay more for something than they think its worth at the time of purchase.

and lets not forget..... its not really a steam sale...

its a devs and publishers seasonal sale on steam
steam can only suggest pricing... so its not really steams fault
that the sales are getting stale.... and relying on new users not being
aware of how things work year after year after year

steamdb is your friend people...

...and yet, here I am playing through the old version of Sleeping Dogs currently. An 11 year old game that is still good and worth every penny.

the captive community means sellers dont have to try much..
but i think the sales are suffering now as word gets out that your
not getting the good deals you think you are.....
Being able to distribute your sales across multiple stores. Not having to fight a race to the bottom for visibility in the only storefront. Realising demand has a longer tail than you thought... All of that affects pricing and sales.

Even if you consider Steam users a captive audience, from the developer perspective is one that can diversify their spending in multiples places.

The joke is STeamdb confirms a few interesting things.
Game prices do drop. Even if the discount percentage doesn't. DOom 2016 has never had more than a 50% discount but that base price has been shifting.

I think the wisodm is just. DOn't pay more for a game than you think it's worth. Old or New.
