Not hacked/hacker. Hijacker/hijacked.

Friends account was compromised. Likely due to them entering login credentials on a phishing website. That allowed them to access the account. Then when they sent a trade to their friend the hijackers BOT cancelled it. It then modified their account to look like your friends target and resent the trade all with a few seconds so your friend didn't notice a delay. They then ignored the warning about the target NOT being a friend and confirmed the trade.

Their skins are gone. Report the account that received them, block, move on and stop

Steam do more than enough https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/70E6-991B-233B-A37B it's the users that are the problem. They are not 'hackers' either - just common scammers preying on the most gullible and reckless.

Nothing can protect you from lacking common sense.

Valve can't make users keep their accounts secure. And you might find it's pretty hard to impede scammers from doing things, and not impede legitimate activities by users.

I mean the scammer is using chat well lots of users are using chat. Maybe Steam should monitor all chats and babysit/interject any time something seems suspicious. You know how people love being spied on.

Every time Steam implements a new layer of security users come out of the woodwork to wail about how awful, cumbersome, impossible it is. It is quite a thin line to walk.

Pretty easy to sit from the comfort of your chair with no responsibilities and cast stones and not be concerned about the complexity or scope of the issue.

Stop using the the internet.

If you're observant enough you can often notice, these phishing bots and scammers, in your email, on the junk mail category, this doesn't even take into account the majority of them, which are blocked by your email, before even reaching the destination. Not many people look through their junk mail, so often a illusion of them not existing may be created.

When you look a scam message for instance, the two types which i have experienced, is the one advertising you being a winner or the one threatening you. Both are common methods, we had these lottery winner scams, for a long time in history and now in the internet. Most people understand already that you don't win something just by doing nothing, such as getting a random email saying you're the winner of this price just put your credit card details to win this price.

Instead the modern trend of scams is this threatening type, something mimicing authority to get your money, such as police, goverment or known companies, so that is one of the reasons why VALVe doesn't never directly add you and send you messages via chat, the same way police doesn't send you a email saying, that you have done a crime and should pay in crypto, to this adress to get this random fine paid, which you know, you have done nothing to deserve it.

The reason for the crypto, and other ways to detach the transactions from the bank is that, it is harder to track, but still not impossible, since even the crypto leaves breadcrumbs to be followed, if the person who is the victim is interested to follow it. Often these scammers are based in countries, where things may come into the way, to prevent justice from happening, so a lot of pressure and patience is needed, but fundementally taking these scammers down, has a positive impact on the wellbeing of Earth, since once there are proper incentives, to not do this kind of behaviour, so does the scamming decrease.

there is a big difference between helping someone to walk or teach him how to walk
when you can stop scammers why you teaching them to not get scammed

sure i'm aware about this stuff just saying why steam don't do anything about the way they are using to scam people
They do. They give people tools to help make their accounts more secure. But if people are going to give away their account info, unintentionally of course, Valve is limited in what they can do. The safest thing is to probably remove the market and trading entirely, but you could imagine how well that would go over.

you are right but the point is everything is possible but when you see benefit in something you will not stop that like hackers in game or scammers in market

So Valve should remove Stuff like Skins and Community Market because dumbo People like your Friend lack basic Common Sense?
That's a crazy thought process.
