How long has SHMUP been a thing?
Has to be one of the dumbest sounding acronyms I have ever seen.

since the 1980s
Technically that was SHoot'em Ups. Overtime consonats and vowels got dropped.
Better than bullet hell which is improperly used about 90% of the time. Most "bullet hell" games are NOT bullet hell.

I'm glad they defined what is eligible...

Am aware. All tigers are cats but not all cats are tigers. I get that.
atleast since the 1970's in the old arcade games...
"The term "shmup" is believed to have been coined in 1985 by the British Commodore 64 magazine Zzap! 64. In the July 1985 issue, the term was used by the editor Chris Anderson and reviewer Julian Rignall."

I just put this genre and plenty more on a category I have designated "arcade" and move on, considering how poorly Steam library has being updated overtime and how we still can´t make sub-categories I kind of stopped caring about steam tags or the thousand genres people give tags for every game.

FPS + drawn on hand + female protagonist + blood + RPG + point and click + great soundtrack + good story + choices matter .... how the f**k am I suppose to get ANY information about the game from such random amalgamation of just "things" the game has mixxed with rating stuff mixxed with the 4 different genres?

Quite frankly I think that´s what this is, "shoot´em up" takes more space than SHMUP, and Americans loves acronyms because you may lose your life in the time it takes to write "on my way" or "to be honest", no, it has to be OMW and TBH... malditos

I can tell ya here and now if it has the Blood or Gore tag that typically means your in for a very brutal death for someone in the game and I very very rarely see that tag used outside of those games, and usually when they mean Blood or Gore, they do mean that because frankly the last game I played that had the tag didnt have any gore in it and I was confused....

...That is till I got to the end when a girls head got chomped half off and the art displayed that """lovely""" graphical death so...ya....
