What's the stance on award farming?
Do you appreciate posts that make an effort to be edgy? Do I not understand forums anymore?

Am I a boomer?

The awards are a stupid mistake by Valve. It merely gave more incentive for people to spam nonsense.

It's also rare that people actually put effort in their edgy jester farming.

I think eventually enough user will stop awarding obvious award farming posts that people will give up on them. Especially if users stop commenting on them to keep them near the top of a particular forum. Best to just ignore them and watch them get pushed further and further down the list.

It's usually just a really stupid take that takes advantage of those who haven't seen it before or know what they're being lured into commenting on or awarding.

The thing is there will always be at least an handful of people taking the bait and giving awards.
And even just an award once in a while is enough for farmers to keep going...

It's their points and they can spend them however they wish. Eventually they will run low and have to buy more stuff to get more.

Which is almost certainly what Valve are counting on and why it'll never do anything other than token efforts to clamp down on it. Any engagement is good engagement.

I don't particularly care if someone wants points. You either pay them forward or use them for something fancy from the Point Shop.

That aside, the whole point system was inviting trouble from the start and did cause a bump in more troll threads.

Eh, I don't know that's how it works. It's not like we're getting ads pushed to us.

You should check out the game hubs of recent major releases. Maybe you'd change your mind on that first part.

Truth. Reactionary content is more prevalent because it's easier; compulsively-driven discussion vs intellectual engagements. Think which gets more hits on a gaming platform

I like the awards system.

It's a nice feature, I agree. It can be used very well
