Steam used to sell/rent movies in the past.
In around 2015 to 2017, I don't remember which year it was, but steam used to be a distribution platform for actual movies which got discontinued after a few months. So basically you could watch Dirty Dancing on Steam's subpar video player around that time. :lunar2019laughingpig:

Sadly this isn't being mentioned on Steams anniversary page.

They removed the video player a few years ago.

But they did mention Steam Machines in 2015.

The subpar video player was one nail in its coffin. Another was the fact that you couldn't download/stream said movies to mobile devices like phones or tablets. Or even have an app on TV's or streaming devices (i.e. Roku) to watch on a big screen. Valve really went down that road without a good, solid, long term plan and was pretty much doomed from the start.
