Anyone else who should have the 20 year badge?
I'm not gonna cry you a river, but I always found it a bit sad. I remember at the time Steam came out we used it as a server browser for HL mods. Been in a Firearms clan at the time. At one point my account got hacked and apparently that reset the counter somehow. Bit of a shame.

Anyone else who's sharing that pain?

An account being hijacked does not cause that to happen. Hijackers cannot reset your badges.

Your account was literally created two years after the stable release of Steam.

Someone hijacking your account doesn't change the account creation date. The SteamID3 number for your account is way to high to have been created during the first year.
There's no pain to share, your Steam ID (STEAM_0:1:88*****) which cannot be changed or reset wasn't created in 2003 but in 2005 so you've nothing to be sad about.

This account was created September 2005.

I should have gone more into detail afterall but I didn't think this was unusual. So, storytime: I don't think the hijackers did, I think Steam support did. After I contacted support about this, I had to get a Valve game that is registered to my account (not sure which one I used), write my account name on it in a way that it was visible together with the product key and take a picture for them. I then got access back.

Here's where it gets a bit strange: I'm German and I had the German version of HL, which is censored. After I got my account back I had the uncensored version in my account! This may sound really strange, but together with the badge situation (badges weren't introduced for a good while after that incident, mind you), this leads me to believe that my original account was scrapped by support and they just made me a new one. I have no other idea how else to explain both of these things.

Anyone who had an account recovered in this fashion early on should have the same problem and I assume people would be like "oh yeah, me too! sucks, n hugs!"

Sorry, but Steam Support cannot alter badges. This is a fact because one of the event badges actually glitched and not everyone could get the completed badge. It was a developer event. People contacted Steam Support asking them to fix it and that was their response. So no, Steam Support did not mess up your badge.

That's not how you recover a hijacked account. They don't tell you to buy a game and have it registered to your account. You have to prove that the account is yours, by showing CD keys and other information.

That is the badge that glitched. For whatever reason, not every user could level it up to 100 XP.

EDIT:

My guess? You have a 20-year-old account somewhere and you're confusing it with the one that you're posting with right now.

I don't claim that it altered my badge. This happened long before badges were introduced so there was no badge to alter. What I claim is that because of the accountrecovery by support my account creation date was either reset or they trashed the stolen account and gave me a new one.

Like I said I also had different versions of games than before recovery in my account.

You recovered a different account that you actually created in 2005.

Recovering an account does not cause anything to reset, nor can Steam Support support reset anything. What you're claiming to have happened, can't happen.

They didn't delete the account either and give you another one, that is also not possible.

Like hot sauce stated, you are thinking about a different account that you had.

Memory is a fickle thing. And lots of people aren't able to admit their memory is just as fickle as anyone else's.

So support changing your account creation date isn't really plausible. And how does an account get "trashed" and support gives you a new one? I mean that's even less plausible than the first crackpot idea.

The boring reality is at best you made an account in 2003 and lost it and made a new one in 2005. And you wouldn't be the first person to forget they had more than one account, or lost an account.
I mean heck, we have people here posting all the time about not being able to find a game that they bought. The thing is, they were logged into the wrong account.

Great job bringing the insults. I was just kinda waiting for it at this point.

Well, it's an attempt to make sense of what happened to my account. Feel free to make better suggestions tho. How would you explain that I got the uncensored versions of those games in my account afterwards? What changed? What happened? And no, I did not import international versions, my memory is not up for debate in that case, I still have the manuals / cases. Do speculate, please.

Yes, people sometimes mix up the details, but I find it a little unreasonable to claim that I would have just imagined a couple of years of my life. But yeah, thanks again for the insults and accusations.

Doesn't sound plausible. My account had to be recovered nearly 18 years ago, creation date stayed the same.
I also had to recover my account back in 2008 and I still have my same account. If you give the correct details to an account to support then you will be able to reclaim your account. Support only gives you the ability to resign into your account using your account details and email account in which you have to make a new password upon reclaiming your account after you have given enough details that it is your account and you have made sure that your PC is clean from virus etc.

It is impossible for support or anyone else to give you another account if you don't know the details. Support will not give you details for another account, they don't give you any details in fact only you have your details.
