Dangers of putting your real name on Steam profile
When you're putting your real name on your Steam profile, there are dangers of doing that especially when you have more than 100+ or 200+ friends in your friendslist and I learned it that way. Here's what it happen to me. I was having fun playing with friends especially CS:GO until one day when we were playing together, one of my friends were acting very suspiciously and acting toxic for a dozen of times. From what I can remember, they might be saying like disrespectful words to the opposing team in CS:GO post-match as I could say ''Attention Seekers''. So, I've decided to cut ties with them by blocking and unfriending them. However about a year later, when I found them in one of CS:GO matches, they were acting toxicity and disrespectful at all times. During the match, one of them has changed from their nicknames to my real name with disrespectful words as if they were cyberbullying or doxxing me. What's the worse thing they can do is they could have searched my real name on Facebook and Instagram and guess what? they found my real name on Facebook and Instagram, stolen one of my profile pictures and create the new account in order to impersonate and doxxing me as well as destroying my image and reputation. I have blocked and reported since I've discovered all of this and I have posted the alert notice. This is because when I played with them for the first place last year ago, I have set my real name on my Steam profile and my friendslist were over 200+ friends back then and I can't tell what they're doing. But if you have a lot of friends but didn't get in touch, they could have searched your real name on Facebook and Instagram too. So, they've decided to have fun by creating a new Facebook and Instagram account in order to impersonate and doxxing you, but you can't tell who are doing that because you have more than 100+ or 200+ friends in your friendslist. That's because you have set your real name on your Steam profile while you have more than 100+ or 200+ friends in your friendslist. I recommend if you have a lot of friends in your friendslist, you should remove your real name on your Steam profile because you wouldn't know what are your friends doing to your real name if you got more than 100+ or 200+ in your friendslist. I've learned it that way because I have putting my real name on Steam profile while I have more than 100+ or 200+ friends in my friendslist last year ago. I can't tell what they're doing one day and that way, I could have putting myself in danger. So yeah, toxicity is very common in online world and not all of them can be trusted even your friends too.

Anyone that knows your name can create a website and mess up your image. It doesn't matter if on Steam or not.

Considering there are probably multiple if not dozens of people with your name or family name I don't see a issue with it, if they had your social ID number then it would be another story. I have atleast 19 people or more who has the same name and family name as me and we aren't family members or people I have ever me.
. All you can do is report it and not pay attention to it.

Maybe you shouldn't have put your real name on those platforms in the first place?

Well, everyone can put their real names on Facebook and as for Instagram, they will include their nicknames and their real names too. As for Steam, I can just put my nickname only due to dangers of putting my real name on Steam profile.

It almost seems as if you're advertising for those two companies. They're both brand names.
But they do not look good. There have been all sorts of lawsuits against them, and they have been sued many times.

People need to read this article for further instructions on what to do, if they are being harassed:
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4F8E-AE41-B6B1-F836

You should comfortably be able to set your name on your profile. But you may as well not do that, if the people are in such a troublesome state.

I think Facebook and Instagram is operated by one company called meta probably XD, but for Steam, it is nothing to do with Facebook and Instagram. I am not sure why people online are behaving toxicity and disrespectful at all times. Probably they're doing this for their enjoyment, excitement and pleasing themselves?

Yes I know friends who got stalked real life by people they beat in an online game, and others who had their pic taken off social like you and used to create a fake account. In one case someone took pics of her family and kids and did that. Too many crazy people out there. There is no good reason someone needs your real name or photo on a game. first name is ok but that where I draw the line.

YUp. There are some very common first and family names and when you're talking about a global population. You have to have a damned near freakish combination to be unique.

Generally though it's not advisibkle to put RL data in your account

If one of your online friends are friendly, very respectful, talkative and not behaving toxic at all, you've gotta respect and trust them. However if one of your online friends aren't friendly, act toxicity and being disrespectful at all times, don't trust them at all and last but not least, cut ties with them. So yeah, never put your real name on your Steam profile unless if you think it's safe enough.

If you have hundreds of people on your friends list you are probably adding any random person you run across so you are going to get what comes with that. Maybe be a little more selective in your "friends".

It's a risk wherever you provide such information online, but it does seem like you're more likely to come across super special types on gaming platforms who will think nothing of doxing you due to some throway slight. Even a photo of yourself is more of a risk than ever thanks to services like PimEyes.
