original mw2 (2009) should be removed from the steam store
The game is great sadly the multiplayer is a huge security risk due to RCE exploits where a hacker can get access to your whole computer, activision is aware of the issue and doesn't seem to care. The multiplayer should either have a warning or be removed entirely, if activision keeps on ignoring the issue the game should be removed from the store

No hacker is ever going to use Modern Warfare 2 from 2009 to hack your PC.

I'm pretty sure Activision just claims this so that they can shut down the servers in order to sell their newer games.

lol what

there was an rce exploit in black ops 3 that they recently patched

and they don't "use mw2 from 2009 to hack your pc", they use a security hole within the game

take your tinfoil hat off

Zefar, it is well known that these older CoD games have/have had RCE exploits that pose a genuine security threat. There is a reason why fan-made clients/servers have been used by players up until Activision decided to send the creators a C&D letter (great move, by the way).

Does this affect the coop as well, if you play with someone you know?
Or do you have to "interact" with the hacker?

muppet among puppets, if you only play with people you trust you will be fine, but if you play with randoms most likely they wont use this exploit and be a normal player sense most of the hackers abusing the exploits don't target spec ops if that's what you meant by coop, but it still could happen if your playing with random players on coop.

What are you talking about? It has been exploited countless times. There are countless videos and proof of concepts.

CVE-2019-20893[www.cvedetails.com]

Edit: I absolutely agree OP.

just like no hacker is going to hack a pc because its running on win 7? they wont, but i still think its funny, people will make statements like yours, but yet when the convo is about win 7, all the sudden, the security risk is real.... lol.

Been known for years? Well Activision didn't care about it back then by the looks of it.

They shut private servers for the game because people where hosting matches. They are just using this excuse to just kill the older games off.

Also I'm still gonna go with "You will not be hacked through this game." .

Win7 is a bit different because you can't just turn it off or not playing it. Sure the odds are still low on being hacked on it but the risk is there constantly.

Go with whatever you want. Does not change the fact it is being actively exploited in the wild.

If you ever decide to leave fantasy land there are plenty of examples of people falling victim to this.

Feel free to report the game's store page for being a danger to its players. If you want something to be done, that's the right way to do it. Posting on the forum won't do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, except getting you a discussion.

Been done several times, Activision and Valve show no interest. Awareness is the best way to mitigate the problem as of now.

I think you need to look into what an RCE exploit is and the threat it poses. And you're right, Actvision doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥. Scummy corporation, but I don't think anyone is surprised about that. Their practices are well known.

Anyway, I agree, report the game. Not sure if anything will be done about it but it's better to try.

I have personally reported the store page for this exact reason and nothing ever came of it. Either Valve is unaware which I have my doubts. One look at the Modern Warfare 2 game hub you can see plenty of discussion about it. Or they just do not care.

Just a few days ago X Labs client got a C&D from Activision, it'd be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hilarious if it wasn't just depressing. Activision is actively malicious towards the PC playerbase.
