Yeah - in this day and age - offline mode isn't really something that can be done long term as games/content need updates more often than not.
Older games sure - but that list gets shorter as time passes.
Once again I have to ask - is it really worth the effort?
I keep my Win98 box around for very specific games - but that list of games is short - very short.
Some of us just like playing games in an older OS because we remembered it and it was fun to us. Nostalgia I guess.
When I grew up my first computer was an Apple IIe, and then my first PC was a 8086 XT and then later a 286. I used computers before the first version of Windows was released. I've seen all versions of Windows OS over the years. I liked all of them fondly for various reasons. Sometimes I just want to go play some games in an older OS with older hardware because it's fun to me. Even if those same games run on Windows 10/11. But also at the same time my "most current" Ryzen 5800X computer does run Windows 11 now.
He's not contesting that - its more of patching games/etc - bit of a hazard.
hehe funny xd
But i do not think our friend have a pc running with windows 7 .... at best may be a vm that's all.. like i have for w10 or linux.
Pretty sure some of them ARE running Win 7 - or they wouldn't be debating/discussing it lol.
impressive 7 comp, all that much xd
so you should be an old guy like me but unfortunately i do not have my old comp at home, it's just useless as i won't use them anyway ; i just gave the comp i had to a friend just after i get a new one.
you have no internet, how do you expect your steam to check for update?
Some of my older computers I spent multiple thousands of dollars in them when building them new. As long as they still work I'm going to keep them and find some use for them, even if they aren't worth multiple thousands of dollars today.
That's the point - they never do. Hence offline mode.
why then he uses config and shortcut? in case steam will hack his network at night? lol
True so no need to have a steam.cfg and all the bs line of command that worked for your since when ? 5 months ?
No.... the config prevents steam from "calling home" - which keeps it (supposedly) functional.
Yes - they are gimping their platform to play games - but that's their prerogative.
And generally considered a stop-gap solution on a timer.
But what the point of having the steam.cfg and the bs command line if your bs windows 7 does not have access to internet ?
there is 0 logical reason behind that and especially know you wrote you never setup steam on this machine ,so strange and weird
