Which is more of a sign how desparate EPIC are and how bad the yearly progression reports have been.
They have fallen massively behind their launch plan and are nowhere near where they wanted to be at this point regarding market share.
Basically without Fortnite they would be completely irrelevant.
Nobody buys games on there, the average EPIC user spend like 4 bucks in 2022 on the store which is pathetic compared to Steam.
Most users play the FTP games and grab the weekly free games and thats it.
EPIC is still as far from being a serious competitioner to Steam as when they launched.
It's a money sink, and hasn't made a profit yet.
It's naive to think that, they would be so friendly if everything was going well for them.
Nah , epic store is just a joke, the real contender for valve is microsoft....
Correct and thats why those two did the smart thing and actually are working close together with the Microsoft games releasing day 1 on Steam and their own store.
Same for EA and UBISOFT who both came crawling back to Steam after years of " we dont need Steam ! " and EPIC exclusive deals.
Steam is still the big player on the market nobody can ignore and there is still more money to make here with sales then with all the exclusive money deals with EPIC.
More like doubling down on being a loss leader in every possible way. Unless they're completely stopping those free handouts that is.
Personally, I'm not committing myself exclusively to Steam so much as I'm specifically excluding Epic. While most of my stuff is on Steam, true, I do have accounts on GOG, EA, Ubisoft, Itch.io, Microsoft, Playstation, Nintendo, and Humble.
Epic and Tim Sweeney can eat it.
Because if the know it, it makes the complaint pointless.
So either the person is blowing pointless hot air, or they didn't know.
I went with the option that made them seem less silly.
EPic simply hasn't done enough to warrant me tolerating a 4th launcher. I have Steam, Battle.net, and Origin/Whatever. UI don't feel like tolerating more than that.
The problem is they backed themselves into a corner and they only have the users because they give away stuff. They stop giving away stuff and their users disappear.
So for now i'll just keep taking their free stuff like everyone else and see what the future holds for them
Yuuup. Many forget that the " one free game each week" was supposed to only last the first year.
But they feared such a huge drop in users that they kept it going for nearly 5 years now.
