Windows 11 + Steam
Anyone here using Win 11 how does it support old, obscure and indie games? I understand Windows 11 has no problems wiht modern AAA games. But what about old games or even retro games are they playable on Win 11 or should I stick with Win 10 for now?

You are describing a modern port and an emulation.

As for OP, compatibility appears to be about the same.

so far, I had no trouble with launching even old games like the OG port of Quake 2 or UT1999 on Win11 22H2 without any real problems.
What Win10 can run, will run on 11 as well.

Don't upgrade to Windows 11 if you like having your taskbar docked anywhere other than the bottom edge of your screen. They removed the ability to dock it to any of the other three edges. You can download a third party tool someone put together on GitHub that attempts to recreate the Windows 10 taskbar experience as well as restore a lot of contextual menu options that were removed between 10 and 11 too, but honestly I wish I hadn't upgraded and didn't have to run third party indie developer tools just to keep my task bar on the side.

There might be some taskbar customizability coming back in the future, if some of the strings revealed in the binaries mean anything.

Also, this is irrelevant to OP.

I still have to find a game who doesn't run with W11. At worst some quick googling will fix most issues.

What Win10 can run, will run on 11 as well.
There's also cases like the original RCT2 - which apparently won't start up on Windows 11 anymore.

Microsoft is bringing that back, actually.

Not sure about the movable taskbar but Twitter user Xeno exposed some strings from a Canary build of Windows (that's now the most "unstable" Insider tier) and it revealed strings corresponding to the taskbar button behaviors from Windows 7 to 10.

It runs games just as well as Window 10 did, which in turn did run games just as well as Windows 7.
I have yet to find a game that ran on Windows 7 but not on 11, i doubt that there are more then a handful, if that.

Giving one example. Fallout 3 refuses to start on Windows 11. Runs on Windows 10 no problem.

I'll test that tonight but until then I can say to check the Compatibility tab (it might be trying to start in 16 but color mode hence needing to enable it) or you may just need to reinstall your graphics drivers.

I think fallout3 just requires an ini change to force it to a single core or something but that was true back on windows 10. the latest steam version desnt even require you to hack GFWL anymore

Only games I cannot get to work on windows 11 are Condemned Criminal Origins and Fear. There are fixes, but yea. Just download and play? nope

Haven't found a game yet that doesn't work - compatibility is basically the same as it was on Win 7 - and I play some pretty old games.
