WTF?why stop supporting Windows 7?
I have many valid reasons for not wanting to upgrade to Win10.

For example, I have too many applications and games installed, it seems to be over 300~500, and if I were to upgrade to WIN10, there are too many programs that would need to be downloaded and installed, registered and configured again, which is quite a hassle and could take days.

And with my hardware running fine on WIN7 and games, there is no need to upgrade.

I have tried installing WIN10 as a second boot system and trying to use it, but it doesn't seem to fit my hardware, there is a noticeable reduction in performance on the same configuration, and I just play games, I don't need to upgrade for the sake of so-called security.

Forcing an upgrade would be like STEAM interrupting my game service, which is actually a violation of player rights, Keep at least one version for Win7 players that will be available for a long time and will not be upgraded, even if there is only a basic function to launch the game.

when I choose to continue using an outdated system it naturally means I can be held responsible for my choices, such as if the system is hacked or running a ransomware virus.

I don't know why, but there are quite a few people in the comments asking us to upgrade our systems in the name of caring about the security of our systems. Seriously, we don't care if our systems are secure enough, We just want to come home after a busy day and run STEAM to play our favourite games and get a bit of relaxation, that's all.

Maybe I have another reason, not every player is in a developed country, for developing countries it costs more extra money to upgrade computers and hardware (I know some people will say that upgrading win10 is free, but what about hardware? In fact the hardware of win7 has a performance reduction on win10), so why can no one understand that?

I saw that someone submitted feedback to STEAM customer service about this, and the official response was for players to come to this forum and voice their position, so maybe that's a good sign.

We need more support, so make your voice heard, please.

Sorry, my English is not good, so I use a DeepL translation tool to communicate.

Diablo 2 not working on Win10?
24GB RAM not enough for Win10?
People in 2024 use CD-ROMs for games?

After all of the above it's pretty it was a right decision to drop win7 support. January will come, and Santa will bring the reality check.

No wonder Microsoft is forcing updates..

Hello

How could you conclude that d2 is working in this bs video?

I am really curious because we did not seen it running : all we have seen is a guys changing shortcut properties nothing else.
And he was changing the shortcut of rockstar game launcher ... so where is d2 ??
Here is a 4 mins video guide of running Diablo 2 on Win10 in 2022 https://youtu.be/RKcTp_ZxRfQ?t=92 (starts at 1:30) from start to getting into the game.

TL;DR he downloaded D2 off the battle.net, installed it and started playing... Who would have thought..

It's 2023, not 2024.

I still have my collection of games on physical mediums (5¼ floppies even). I shouldn't play those just because of the year it is?

If you have a valid CD key, could you not still download it from battle net?

Not arguing, just asking because I have no idea. Seems like it should work, if not then I'd call that a big fail on Blizzard's part.

Even if it worked for a popular game like D2, that same solution would not be available for more niche games.

Steam support drops win7 in 2024. And it's a red herring argument anyway because win10 isn't dropping physical medium support either.

Ok but let's keep the goal posts in one place for rhe moment. We're talking about D2, and whether it runs on Win10 (by many accounts it does) and your concern about your original disks (which includes me, so I really would like to know the answer.)

https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Diablo_II#Run_game_without_CD

As of patch 1.12, the game officially supports running with no CD. Some newer copies of the game are set up to run with no CD by default.

If CD keys are registered on the Battle.net website, disc-free installers can be installed, even the discs themselves are lost.

For older copies of the game, do the following:
-snip-

There are no reasonably playable games without a solution in existence affected by Microsoft preventing Securom checks in Windows 7 and Windows 10. It borders at trolling at this point.

yup actually most games that "don't work" only take couple lines of code fix unlesss... your like persona or one of those really old games thats where issues arise , for a example instead of giving us the international persona 5 they gave us the Japanese build and for older games you need to rewrite them or to remake them
but thats not what i think they define as working
what they define as working would never matter in any given situation we given them the solutions but they just cry about it

Try understanding the nature of forum posts, kid. As you are well aware this thread is thousands of posts long and has spanned many different sub-topics. I was responding specifically to your post about your original D2 disks, implying that the given workarounds don't apply to physical vs digital media, to which your answer was basically "yeah whatever but there are other less popular games."

We can certainly talk about those other games if you want, but D2 was the topic of the minute. And somebody was nice enough to share the answer, since neither of us knew.
Ignorance of the context/conversation on your part does not constitute a moving of the goal posts on mine.
i mean you and windows 7 do keep moving the goalposts

The context, as I see it, was Diablo 2 on newer Windows and it was shown that there are ways to run it, to which you replied "I still have my original install discs."

So which part is me being ignorant? By all means clarify, because it seems to me that you're just squirming and attempting to discredit my comprehension instead of actually addressing my question. (Which somebody else answered.)
Literally posted like 5 hours ago.

You're kind of correct there but not really. If you try and install Diablo2 from the original CD's then yes, it won't work in windows 10. However if you add your original diablo2 CD Keys to an battle.net account through the battle.net client it will register the game to that account. Then if we install the game through the battle.net client it will download a version of Diablo 2 that will be updated, patched, and work 100% normally on Windows 10.
"I would have found that forest by now if someone didn't put all these trees in my way..."

The original CDs not working is the point. Diablo 2 was a big enough game that they gave you alternatives, which proves my point. A lot of less popular games would have had similar install CD methods, but not the popularity to secure alternate install methods like Battle Net or remakes.
