Trojan detected
As the headline says today my anti-virus flagged Steam as having a trojan. Now not sure if it was a false positive, but removed it all the same. I don't know what got deleted but I had to reinstall Steam when I found out it wouldn't open up even in admin mode.

Valve ( or whoever is responsible) might want to run a check on the latest steam patch, just to make sure nothing was uploaded with it.

Edit. The trojan was in the Steam folder, it was not there before steam update.

You really think a multi billion dollar company is going to upload a trojan?

It's called a false positive. Something that virus programs pick up all the time for whatever reason. I don't even use an anti-virus because of how intrusive they are and I never have issues. Being internet smart is the best protection.

Yes I Do.

That is how much I trust the company.

Trust has been broken, & they are not to be trusted anymore.

Well I thought it best to just mention it, as you don't know who has managed to hack them... Better safe than sorry.

Okay let me be more specific, you think they are going to put malicious software on your computer that will render it useless and not allow you to purchase more stuff? Come on, stop fear mongering.

Well I have reported it, it is up to valve to double check that they haven't been hacked. And I am super strict with web browsing etc... OCD strict!

Contact the antivirus company.
Or check the found file with virustotal.

Thats what you do if something that should not be detected, is detected.

Definitely a false positive. It ain't even the first time false positives pop up with Steam. What's your antivirus anyway?

Usually its avast, avg or norton, when these topics come up.

or in the best case scenario, McAfee. :)

Regardless, garbage AVs.

I never said this was happening. I'm also not the one who reported,
nor going around saying i'm being a target of a virus. I also am not
fear mongering.

I'm just simply stating I don't trust this Company.
My trust in them goes as far as this thread being posted goes.

I feel like valve wouldn't do that to the approximately 30.6 million people who use steam.

and I also feel like that could be a bit of a problem with valve's PR department/valve in general.

LOL, you let your antivirus decide who is good or bad?

Well, my antivirus tells me, steam is fine.

So what is it now?

How can they be good and bad? Or is it maybe just a false positive?
I mean, if someone actually wants to send you a trojan, dont you think they would not test first if your antivirus detects it?

You should really contact the antivirus company, so they can restore your trust in another company again........
But wait, do you really trust your antivirus company? They could have sent you 1gb of trojans and made sure their antivirus does not detect it.......

See how that goes?
It's a false positive. Anyone who thinks Valve would put a real trojan in Steam is, frankly, stupid.
I would really like to know which Antivirus OP is using.
Would probably explain the situation.

The next definition updates will explain it to him.
