Steam Deck SD card issues
I am trying to use my 64gb SD card with my steam deck, I put it in and format it, nothing ... so i look around, find some people saying "format it to fat32" so i format it to fat32, put it in, format and same thing "this sd card cannot formatted" what am i doing wrong?

should also mention, im not tech illiterate this is just extremely confusing since ive followed what others have said in guides

First, it should be formatted as EXT4 - that’s what the Linux Deck uses by default.

Secondly, when you try to format it, what’s the error message you receive?

(FAT32 wouldn’t help in any case because it can’t “hold” any file larger than 4 gig. Great for moving small file between Mac and Windows though. Totally useless for the default Linux configuration of a gaming Deck.)

Just to be sure.....does your sd card fullfil the minimum spec listed on the steamdeck page?

UHS-I supports SD, SDXC and SDHC

Could be that if it detects a slower one that it refuses to do anything with it.

check steam deck forum for SD card sudo fix, there is a thread on how to reauthorize your SD card on the steam os.
