2003 Steam accounts being sold??????
ive been on steam for 10 years , played many games , and ive only seen a handful of the old 2003 accounts ( now 19 years old ) ive noticed recently theres ALOT of 19 year old steam accounts popping up , strangely alot of them have been trolls , really aggressive edgy hateful trolls , not the minor annoying trolls ,obviously a return of 40 year old troll army is unlikely , ive come to not only realize but physically found a website that specialises in selling 2003 steam accounts , now here's my question it seems an awful lot like these people are making these accounts instead of selling inactive 2003 steam accounts , also if they are making them what are they editing to make them appear to be 2003 accounts and if they are selling inactive 2003 accounts how the heck are they getting into peoples accounts ?

i personally believe their making these accounts but it must be someone from inside valve as they can actually edit the accounts and make them appear to be from 2003 when in reality their made new , also each purchase is promised to include the same 8 games ...this is what really makes be believe their not actually 2003 accounts .

i in no way want to purchase one of these accounts or am encouraging it i just want to have a discussion about this , as i said theres been a major increase of 2003 accounts and many of them are trolls , wondering if anyone has seen this

i honestly love the part that everyone thus far ignored , being that every account sold on said website will come with the same 8 games and still be an 2003 account , they are clearly being made and not selling old accounts the main part of this discussion was to dissect and try to determine how their making the accounts appear to be from 2003 .......
People ignore it because it's not unusual in any way. The only one thinking that's odd is you. Not sure why you're creating a whole theory that has zero evidence.

Those accounts simply are old accounts they hijacked or bought themselves. And it's also not hard getting ones hand on a big bunch of Steam keys for cheap.

you disagreed with me and then agreed with me , and finding the website that sells the 2003 accounts that all come with the same 8 games is not evidence ? again the whole point of the discussion was to ...discuss how their making new accounts appear to be old accounts , go take a walk have a shower and then come back if you actually want to be apart of a constructive conversation , please your not adding to this in any positive way

your also being woefully disingenuous

Why would I discuss something that isn't happening?

You're being disingenious by disregarding the obvious thing: All you're seeing is hijacked/bought old accounts being resold. It's not an inside job.

That depends on how the "discussion" flows, of course.

Most times you're seeing fake accounts. Why buying accounts is just a dumb thing to do. No one ever gets what they are promised, why it's a scam. They always link to the same 4-8 accounts as the ones for sale, and you get something totally different, and there's nothing you can do about it since you were dumb enough to try and buy one lol

i think its safe to assume there's alot of scammers trying to scam other scammers so what your saying is more then true , i don't think there's anything more enjoyable then watching scammers get nailed , check out " jim browning " on youtube if you also enjoy this !

hate is strong , sadly hate is also blinding you find alot of hate comes from lack of education on the topic or in general and frankly the hate is often baseless as you have seen eram

They're not making new accounts.

People have been making accounts for sale since Steam became a thing. Create a number of accounts with cheap keys -> sit on them for years -> sell them when the account or the games on the are in demand.

Some people sell accounts with specific games. Some sell accounts based on how old they are. Been going on all this time.

Now then, if a site is selling accounts, those accounts can come from a variety of sources, like:

1. Hijacked accounts that the original user has forgotten or given up on.
2. Previously sold accounts being sold forwards. Some might have a VAC ban on them. Such accounts were used in large quantities to spam vote community content before Valve stopped it.
3. Accounts made specifically to be sold at a later time.
4. Users that are giving up on gaming putting their own accounts up for sale.
5. Accounts used to scam people who think they can buy one. After a while the seller just reclaims the account as they have the original proof of ownership.

And so on and so on.

All the accounts have a SteamID which would reveal accounts that were created in 2023 and made to look like accounts created in 2003. Can't have duplicate IDs after all.

I wonder if mine is there, cause I remember making one with a mail address that was left inactive and it probably had a simple password too but at that time I didn't care cause I was not forced nor had any intention to use Steam as I didn't care about HL2, CS, TF and DoD

I would imagine that there are quite a few 19+ year old accounts that were abandoned long before Steam Guard became a thing. This would make them extremely vulnerable, especially as their login names were also their original email address.

So someone that got access to a bunch of email logins could run through them and see if any of them were the login for old Steam accounts and try a password recovery (if it was different from the email password). With access to the email they can delete the ones from Steam to cover their tracks and change the Steam account email to a new one.

Believe me, that's one reason why I've made sure to change my email and Steam password every so often, in addition to the time I learned of a data breech with my email provider. I also make sure that my email password is excessively unique so if someone somehow had access to some of my other passwords, there is nothing there that would help them guess it.
