what is steam doing to address neo nazi content
https://www.vice.com/en/article/dy79na/senator-asks-gabe-newell-why-steam-hosts-so-much-neo-nazi-content

seems like it's been years and the only thing that happened is gaben approves of neo nazi content more than ever.

Damn she's just 8 months late to check up on her own deadline, its as if nothing came of this and she was never serious about it

Most probable outcome? Valve sent her the relevant information, showing they do not accept nor condone such content in their TOS and they actively deal with it when reported and that's it. Job's done.

But since some people have an axe to grind with Steam and it's summer and too hot to be outside they seem to be busy this week digging every negative piece of news on Steam, regardless of it's age just to stir up some forum jimmies.

I mean it's a change of pace from all the W7 support end threads still not locked. But it'd be better if we had something recent to discuss. Not year old news discussed many times already.

What's next. A thread about Wolfire's lawsuit?

Or more likely, in the process, being it takes many months to secure documents, do an investigation (here at Steam as well ) and prepare to respond, or testify.
Which she can't do. Department of homeland security has its own investigation branch which she's not apart of to start with, its one of the other two existing subbranches

You posted me a link, that's exactly what they do LOL. The Department is accountable to that committee. Good Grief.

I would not be shocked, some of the topics that have popped up over the last two weeks have been interesting to say the least! As a matter of fact in one I was replying in, we got into a debate on English words when we started out joking about the different forms of measurment (Kelvin, F and C)

Well, she's 7 months late and has literally not spoken about it since.

Looks like she didn't really care or even understand what she was complaining about.

It doesn't take 7 months to get a subpeona on valid concerns.

they have been selling
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1849000/SEX_with_HITLER/
for a good while now.

so I contacts good old steam... and I asked them...

to which they basically told me to ♥♥♥♥ off.
That still sits in line with not hurting people, as long as there's no racial violence in the game then there's no issue, which as far as I know that is just a straight up sex game with no other content besides Hitler sleeping with Italians and Japanese girls (and German but ya-know) which..is not against the law of the Untied States or steam, thats not even racist or wrong (in terms of law)
so why can't I use an image of hitler to represent my opposition to steams totalitarian trade restrictions?

It's a subcommittee. That means the committee is accountable to the DoHS.

If you use one from that game, they will allow it.

As Mango said, if its from the game they allow it, but Hitler is part of the larger existing law where you cant use the likeness of any existing historical figures, leaders, political members and a few other things that I forgot, you can use parodies but not the real imagery, thats not even Steam, thats just a really old law but idk what its called

then how can I put a caption on it so I don't just feel like a nazi for using a picture of hitler without context?
In any event to wrap this up on my part for now, to the OPs concerns, Valve simply has to monitor their game hubs, and rid incompetent developers from doing it on their own.

In the end, if something awful happens, Joes Game Hub is not going to hold the bag. Valve holds the bag.

And unless Mr Newell is going to count on a bunch of tik tok teenagers or malcontented individuals to moderate his game hubs, he may want to take the reigns, with more qualified personnel.

This is an issue, that is not gong away in the gaming community anytime soon.

CEOs and heads of companies are ultimately going to be held responsible for damaging content, a company located in the US, where Far Right Terror organizations are the number one terror threat here. That matter, outweighs any companies rights or freedoms over US and other citizens.

I applaud Senator Hassan. The ADL, and the Homeland Security Committee, for looking into this, not very surprising matter.

I don't think that's a US law. Or one that has any enforcement.

Nothing will happen as their not violating the law, have a good day!

I like how in the first part of your announcement, it still shows the chipped shoulder over moderation action from a forum. Completely removing any genuine concern that was attempted.
