Linux runtime "Soldier" broke all Steam games in my Tesla car.
Asteroids won't launch since my Tesla automatically installed Steam Linux runtime "Soldier". If only I could upload a video to this forum, I could show you. It used to work just fine. Who is the BONEHEAD who forced that new runtime on us Tesla drivers?????

Is this about a certain game?

Is the Steam on Tesla version officially supported by Valve? Does it have the option to force a compatibility tool, i.e. run the Windows version in Proton?

Run the game through Proton.

There is no option to select a different runtime or any compatibility tool.

No idea how to do that. Any other Tesla drivers out there?

I don’t know. I have no idea who is pushing these updates. Nobody at Tesla Service seems to know anything.

I may be woefully out of touch but this entire title of this thread reads like a headline on The Onion website. Steam? On a Tesla... CAR? What? Why? You can't play games while driving. What is even going on here?

All Tesla cars have a gaming system built in, to keep kids in the back seat occupied, or for the driver to kill time while charging the car away from home.
On the touchscreen there’s an icon called “Arcade”. They have several in-house games made by Tesla, but in the past they have always included a set of games from Atari. Namely Asteroids, Lunar Lander, Invaders Etc. These were called the TeslAtari games.
As of late 2022, when Tesla refreshed their model X and model S vehicles, they dropped the contract to use the TeslAtari games and didn’t tell anyone. Apparently Tesla replaced that option with STEAM. Now, I’m not a “Gamer”, being the old codger that I am. However I have always loved Asteroids. Nobody at the local Tesla service center knew that Atari had been dropped and replaced with STEAM. However as I looked into what STEAM was all about, imagine my joy when I discovered that I could purchase Asteroids through STEAM and play it in my car!
Well, everything was hunky dory until a couple weeks ago the runtime “Soldier” was pushed down to the car’s Arcade system. It’s Linux-based, and that’s about all I know. I’ve messed around with the menus and there is no apparent way to back out of or uninstall this runtime with the menus provided by Tesla. And of course the local Tesla Service center’s right hand does not know what the left hand is doing when it comes to the gaming system. So I opened a ticket with STEAM and they were clueless also, advising me to resolve it on the public forum.
So here I am, totally surprised that there is no discussion about Tesla cars and their STEAM problems. So that’s my story, and I’m stickin to it.
Did I make things as clear as mud?

I kind of understand now. It's also making me happy I never bought a Tesla and certainly never will now.

Also you might want to try searching in google for some sort of Tesla Forums. I don't know if the Steam forums are the right place to search for this.

Although you could also try asking here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/

Probably because this is part of the law which state that a driver can't be distracted while driving and that it make perfect sense to prevent (mostly dumb) people to do that instead of just looking at their phone screen while they are driving?

Depending on your state/region/province, this is probably illegal to begin with.

It's just a routine Steam update. The "Soldier" runtime is part of Steam for Linux, and is the second generation of Steam libraries.
