Fair enough. They disable Steam on Windows 7? I'm emptying my wishlist and limiting purchases.
It's so funny because so many of the "shut up and upgrade" bullies keep claiming that Steam's reason for doing this is that "you're not profitable". Folks, I've been on Steam since it launched. I've got several hundred games. I routinely buy at least a couple, if not several, every month. My wishlist is loaded. I've poured tons of money into Steam and were it not for this ridiculous new precedent of "disabling Steam for W7" instead of doing like everyone else and either providing a scaled-down version, or just letting people run the last supported version, I would continue to do so. But now? Now I'm emptying my wishlist. GOG or any upstart game platforms that don't lock my lawfully purchased games, many from decades before W10 even existed, behind a pointless W10 requirement, will be getting the money I was going to give to Valve. Any game I can buy and use without paying Steam, I will.

I figure I'll still need to use Steam to get State of Decay 3 because it's either that or the Microsoft Store. I might bend for Payday 3. But I'm now de-prioritizing Steam as having any access to my wallet. That's the trade-off you get for being the first major game platform to literally cripple your client. No, I'm not interested in the Valve acolytes lecturing me about how it's impossible for Steam to enable small mode or something comparable for W7 users so they can still access their games. And I'm even less interested in hearing the "muh security" meme for the 5000th time. You are literally pushing a marketing illusion, nothing more. Your personal and financial data has already been leaked by giant corporations(AND government agencies) multiple times and no operating system upgrade will affect that.

These users really likes to say whatever they want in a thread that doesn't even concern them. fyi, I own W7,10 and 11. I don't care what happens in the future (whether it happen or not) but don't talk down to W7 users like your current windows is any better. they will eol too.

There are literally threads up right now that are criticizing Steam.
I never said they always follow their own rules...

It shows criticizing Steam is not against the rules.

How you do so and the language you use matters though.

It shows that criticizing Steam will summon the rancor of the Acolytes of Valve, who will stalk you and your post history and report anything they can come up with a thin excuse for, in order to get people banned whom they dislike. In addition, it remains a fact that those Acolytes of Valve have been hostile, insulting, and abusive, and nothing is done about them; I can attest to this because I have reported many comments and gotten little to no results, despite their conduct clearly being against the rules.

So your milquetoast and apathetic observations are myopic, at best.

shows how they allow the criticism they want people to see for the sake of people seeing criticism to make them believe that they allow criticism...

it's basic corporate social manipulation...

Uh-huh, right. Meanwhile Valve and other game developers get criticism on their respective hubs all the time and nearly all those users don't get banned for it since they bring it across in a constructive manner.

I mean... it's kinda hard to see the points people have raised which are no longer there due to being removed...
Realistically, in 100 years, nobody will be running Windows 7 or 10 anymore. But we will still be on Steam. I expect everyone will have to upgrade at some point. But you can still use it for a long time, and many new titles still run on Windows 7

Um...I think that's a very lofty prediction as Steam hasn't even yet hit the 20 year mark. I imagine in 100 years the internet as we know it will not even exist.

How convenient. The proof? Nah, it was totally removed.

many titles still run on windows XP... the game management software which includes a store in the hope of selling you more games will be discontinuing access to those games...

I knew it was a bad sign when they stopped allowing users to access their license keys >.>

absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Here are some stats for you.

Only 36% of companies last 10 years and about 21% survive to see their 20th anniversary. Beyond that, the U.S. Census Bureau reports that only about 12% of companies are older than 26 years.

It doesn't matter what many titles still run on. Outside of a few exceptions, games for Win7 run on Win10. They only 'removed' access for games that don't need a separate key activation. Games that do still have the option.

It very much does. There should be no need for Steam users to have to install Windows 10 to run games that were designed to run on operating systems created decades before Windows 10.

oh, so only for games made in the last 3 decades... good thing I can still play games that are literally free for anyone to play online XD

Check if they have Steams DRM. If they don't, you don't need Steam to run them.

By your logic, they should be paying to keep legacy verification all the way back for Win95. Not only is that logistically unreasonable, it is also near impossible as hardware becomes less compatible.

ya, for a lot of them you only need the CD key that steam stopped providing people with like a decade ago >.>

you know there used to be a button on your games that allowed you to access the keys for them? now we aren't allowed the keys to our games.
