macOS
  • Added "End of Life" alert for macOS 10.11 ("El Capitan") and 10.12 ("Sierra"). Steam Client support for these operating systems will end on September 1st, 2023 at 10am. See here for additional details.

Mac & Linux:

The technical work in this update also makes it possible to enable hardware acceleration for the Mac & Linux versions of Steam, bringing them up to par with Windows. You should see snappier animations, scrolling and more responsive UI. Linux users can try the new client out today! For Mac users, you will have to wait a couple weeks as we are hard at work getting the client ready for public testing.

1,36% of the userbase use Win7.
andchaos May 6, 2023 @ 11:35pm
we were already coultin it in another topic, it goes like that:

Steam has over 120 million users (based on data: https://backlinko.com/steam-users)

according to : https://www.bloggersideas.com/how-many-windows-users-are-there-in-the-world/

in 2023 >
Windows 10/11 - 1.4 billion active devices
Windows 7/8 - 200 million active devices

Thats: 0,2/1,6 * 100% = 12,5% of devices

120 milion steam users * 12,5% = 15 milion of all Steam users

according to: https://gs.statcounter.com/os-version-market-share/windows/desktop/worldwide

in 2023 >
Windows 10/11 - 94,46% of all devices
Windows 7/8 - 5,42% of all devices

120 milion steam users * 5,42% = 6,504 milion of all steam users

So the hypothetical Win 7 user base on steam is somewhere between 6,5-15 milion
6.5 - 15 million are on unsupported OS... Steam - we need to fix this by 2024....

Exacly, thats not only a lot of potencial buyers but also customers who already payd for the service. Stoping support for a OS and blocking access for a OS, are two different things, so would be great if they can fix it.

customers failing to maintain their systems with a supported OS
are going to run into problems if they want to continue using steam...

the services will continue to be available when customers meet
the minimum requirements in 2024....
and you have 239 days notice to maintain your system with a supported OS

239 days... will you be playing games..

Am using steam on two machines (one W10, another W7) and I prefer W7, more admin control, I can fix problems which w10 users cannot because hardware&other microsoft prviliages locked out to users (you'll find this stuff on MS's own support page).

People are forced to use windows10 cus most hardwares sold today comes locked with it.
So am probably, like many others, are counted as "w10" but we're still on W7. So the percentage wise is a lie, the numbers are bigger.

On Steam the amount of Win7/8 users are around 1.5%. You raising it to 5.4% is more than doubling it.

Your computer will still work. Steam will just not be able to run on it due to new security features it wants to update with.

Then steam is fraud too.

Not how fraud works, you still have access to your games, you just CHOOSE not to do what's needed to do so.

You can upgrade to Win10 from 7/8 for free. How is that a sale trick?
