im getting cucked
whenever i try to switch from my wifi to my hotspot that has a different ip (this hasnt been a problem untill today) it puts me in a state of being both offline and online. i cant download anything or edit my profile but i can look at the store and anything else you would need internet for and when i close the app it makes me sign in every time i switch. i have tried searching for an answer but none have fixed the issue and its kinda pissing me off which is why steam has been personally cucking me rn.

edit: looks like it fixed itself... im on to you steam...

The difference between getting cucked & getting cheated on is you knowing & agreeing with what's going on.

With that out of the way, do you mean "cellular internet" when you say "hotspot" or do you mean another WLAN?

WELL... Cellular providers love throttling/blocking certain services, even in countries where net neutrality is a thing. I, for example, can't connect to Steam on my Deck through my phone, because T-Mobile decided they don't want their customers to use Steam. Neither Origin, by the way, and EA decided to poison their singleplayer games with an online requirement. What a brave new world!

What you can try, is to change your DNS server. Those blocks often work on the DNS level so change your system's primary DNS server to 1.1.1.1. That's Cloudflare's public DNS, another popular one would be Google's, but with their record in terms of privacy (with former employees confirming Android's privacy settings to be obtuse by intention to trick users, to name an example), I wouldn't want to get involved with Google any more than necessary. Still, if you don't trust Cloudflare (for whatever reason) while trusting Google, their public DNS server would be 8.8.8.8.

With your DNS queries NOT going to your provider, their DNS-based blocking can go ♥♥♥♥ itself. See if you can get Steam working this way. Rather obviously (but better to put that stuff explicitly), start Steam after changing your DNS server, not before. I even think, you should flush your DNS cache after making that setting.
