Epic Games Store and GOG are the thing right now, huh?
See your there in the next year.

unlike steam, there are opensource launchers for GOG and EGS. you can have desktop app to replace galaxy and epic launcher. works on Windows and Linux. to name a few: Gamehub (supports linking gog, steam, itch, indiegala), Heroic (egs and gog - connects to epic server and passes your achievements, tracks time and has good functionality overall - Linux and Win 10 because of requirements for Legendary), Games Nebula (gog, linux). steam has no opensource launchers so if you look for DRM free launcher strangely enough EGS now is nore desirable than steam. gog with offline installers probably the safest bet.

OP is right! Actually having multiple redundant backups in different formats is the best! I trusted these folks at Valve for over 17 years and 500 games and this is what it comes to. Once bitten twice shy as the saying goes.

epic and gog both use chromium so they will end win7 support as well

Gog Galaxy has never been supported on windows 7 which people seem to forget even beyond the chromium issue
But all games the galaxy offers run perfectly on my w7, duh

Every single game I have played and still play are working perfectly fine on Windows 7 and 8, ngl

Guess you haven't played Fortnite. Also they are in the process of phasing out support for 7 & 8 just like Steam. Their store runs on the same version of Chromium that is being discontinued as Steam runs on.

Not to mention every single game still runs perfectly fine on Windows 7 & 8 on steam...
Well, let's be honest, all popular games don't require high end computers and most of them are Free to Play, that's why they're so popular. Most Steam users got their mom's laptops and trying to play some stuff.

CS:GO
Dota
Team Fortress 2
Unturned
...
etc...

all those are only in steam, there are many more.

I doubt that they (ordinary steam users) will want to upgrade to the new OS, like ever??

What? Why?
Your steam account has only 1 game purchased in 6 years...

Yes, see you later when you have no money to buy games in other platforms beyond that single game you owned.

Gog galaxy is not supported on windows 7/8 and never has been

The Epic client has never, ever supported windows 7/8

Not true. Gog currently does not, but it did. Epic runs to this day on 7 and 8 but not Linux...please get your facts straight or try harder.

Epig Games is also using CEF which means Windows 7 support will inevitably end too.

Yeah, Epic just isn't giving them a warning to prepare.

(And even if they did, Epic's lack of proper forums means those Win7 users would still complain here - they always do.)
