Just upgrade your windows already
I see so many different discussions about steam ending support for 7 & 8. Steam is ending support for Windows 7 and 8 because these operating systems are no longer supported by Microsoft themselves, and they're outdated.

Windows 7 came out almost 15 years ago and windows 8 came out 10 years ago, I think it's time to upgrade. What makes people hold on to these old OS's for so long, I don't believe people are really going to throw their whole library away over this.

To those complaining about breaking updates in Windows 10, now 22H2 is the last release and the OS is now basically in "extended support" status. You won't see much more than security updates for the rest of its lifecycle.

This update broke my PC precisely. Some games stopped working, Notepad app was removed. It costed me sweat and tears to restore partially.

I never heard about it. It was interesting to take a look. But I have read, that the last version removed system restore completely, Wndows defender and Microsoft OneDrive service ( if someone needs it )
The word you're looking for is "update" and not "upgrade." Windows 10/11 is NOT an upgrade from Windows 7, though it is an update.

Netflix introduced streaming in 2007. Get rid of your Netflix, it's 16 years old! It's outdated!
how about minding YOUR business already and not order people around that are happy with how they run theirs? Especially nudging them invest time and money to get into a worse state, just so you can be happy. Do you enjoy being evil?

xbitlabs tested different custom windows 10 ISOs for gaming, including AtlasOS.

Looks interesting...

I’d advise you to stick to Windows 7 if you can still use it. No matter how custom Windows 10 is Windows 7 always wins in latency and responsiveness. If I could, I would sit on 7 still but nothing from my PC works with it.

To get low latency you need to use exclusive fullscreen however in Windows 7?

In old days it was this + vsync off + crt :)
In win 10(11?) it's not exclusive fullscreen but new optimized-windowed mode, so OS has all time control over screen, can draw desktop and other windows. Also always vsync-on (couldn't disable it on win11 laptop).

If your GPU supports multiplane overlays then it should reduce latency to at least as close to normal fullscreen as possible. Also the Compatibility tab has an option called Disable fullscreen optimizations that restores Windows 7 behavior.

Apparently Kaldien is shilling for Windows 11 22H2 due to its further refinement of low latency flip model: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/11jsqc7/psa_disabling_full_screen_optimization_in_some/jb6ze7q/

That also means that win 10 is nearing end-of-support, and people will start getting pushed onto 11 (hopefully after it is ready).

If you have an old machine, you're gonna be forced to purchase new hardware to run Windows 11. I have 10 on my old box here, but it'll never be upgraded because of Microsoft's decision (unless something has changed recently).

I left Windows 7 because of Discord. They won't patch Discord for streaming to work under 7 so I ended up biting the bullet. (Not that I like Discord that much, but anyway .. )

People that are upset about Windows 10 / 11 privacy ... well, the problem is ... since Windows is closed-sourced, you can't really assume that it IS private, especially if you patched 7 with certain patches that enabled telemetry.

If Valve doesnt change the support for windows 10 we can stay with 10 for a little longer.
Since thats the only reason I upgraded from 7 was to have use of Steam Client.
I upgraded from 7 to 10 once I saw the notice from Steam but now I'm seeing .

Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025
The current version, 22H2, will be the final version of Windows 10, and all editions will remain in support with monthly security update releases through that date.
Existing LTSC releases will continue to receive updates beyond that date based on their specific lifecycles.

My version is 22H2

The trashcan I use to post this can't update to Windows 11. I probably will just spin that turd even further on Linux.
