They already dropped support for XP and Vista years ago.
Time to move on.
There's no profits in updating your operating system for Steam, GoG, Epic etc. It is about security and features though.
there has to be a decent Linux distro you could find that is easy to install , would still support your hardware and run most of your Steam games with proton.
I'm not a linux fan , I don't like Linux much but it is still an altenative that exist and should be considered in case like this.
Its really hard to sympathize with your point of view when you refer anybody who disagrees with you as haters, suckers and brainwashed.
You do have options, whether you like them or not. Either upgrade or move to console.
It looks like you are "brainwashed". Take a look here and understand:

Microsoft Windows 10 users share 74%, while W11 users share 22.5%. This makes a total of about 95% of Windows users on Steam. And additionally but just 1% use Windows 7 64-bit.

They even state "Google Chrome" in general which hasn't anything to do with Microsoft, but well.. Windows is the most used OS worldwide.
Steam is not "in bed" with Microsoft, nor do they act together, but Steam "has to REACT"!!
Why would Steam like to run on "outdated", "obsolete" and so on "unsupported" and "insecure" devices..?! Steam also needs to go with time, also for latest state-of-the-art standards and security implementations.
It is also due to law policy, think about it, so Steam cannot be sued in a way whenever there is a "security breach" or whatever.
Install Windows 2000, my friend, we been there before as well..:

Steam also stops support for old MacOS etc..

In this case there is no "conspiracy" happening.. but we need to go with time.
Ever heard about Quantum Computers? To exaggerate "a bit", these computers can crack 1 billion passwords within a second. Whenever this releases, EVERYONE has to REACT on that..
This will be a heaven for China, Russia, and other communist states.. as well as for democratic and semi-/pseudo-democratic states..
You simply dont see the whole, the forest in front of trees..

And to be honest and even personally, Windows 7 "had been" the best OS of all time yet, but these 1% are a minority, as sad as it is.. I have been a Microsoft Windows user since 1991.
"Windows 7 Starter" 64-bit was epic!! A barebone leight-weighted cut-down edition. I miss these official leightweighted editions since then..
But my main issue with this process is: I bought my windows 8.1 with other programs and I like those. Win8.1 needs less space and computer capacity to run. And I don't like if somebody want to pull out any money from my wallet against my will. If somebody force me to change my Windows just pay for that, it would be correct. That's it.
"Privacy issues" in Windows 10, 11 and upcoming 12 are a joke compared to Steam itself. Even "NSA conspiracies" are a joke compared to Steam..
Steam logs, stores and backups just "EVERYTHING" you do on it. ANY chat, ANY discussion, even ANY DELETED content is still saved, since 2009!! EVERYTHING!!
https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata
Steam Moderators and Admins even have MORE access and tools to your content than you do yourself..
In Windows 10 and 11 you are even able to disable this "data collection" except "minimum diagnostics" just like it works on Linux to gather updates etc, while on Steam you cant at all!!
You are fit in disabling data collection on your Smartphone? Well, become fit to disable this on Windows 10 and 11. You can even disable most during a fresh and clean install, afterwards you need to disable your Ads-ID on your freshly installed Windows OS.. that's all.
You may ask Steam Support to delete this whole stored content, but they will answer it wont be possible and so only a complete Steam Account deletion works. Though pictures, and workshop content and such can be PERMANENTLY deleted by Steam Support of course.
All you "consumer" guys and especially pensioner have not a slightest idea what is going on .. it is a "skill issue", which is exploited by everybody.
Windows 7 is not outdated even less dead but just forcing users to change, that's the difference but everyone assumes their decisions.
What the point to have Windows XP or Windows 7 Steam system recommandation games if we can not play on these plateforms ? Steam makes a decision or else there is no fair vision.
