Origin stopped working outright about 2 months ago when the EA desktop became non beta.
If you had it installed, The old Origin client will load for about 4 seconds before you get a giant pop over that tells you to install EA desktop. The pop over has full focus and you can’t interact with Origin in any way. You can only close the app and you can’t edit it unless you do it through the system tray icon
EA desktop doesn’t work on windows 8 so not sure what the OP is “going” to. Unless they have a Mac which is the only platform where Origin still works. Which is itself ironic given Apple itself killed it anyway with M1 silicon
Chromium is what their client uses for internal browsing. None of us know how integrated it is inside the client and could very well be required to launch games.
its all just a fairy tale, while support might be dropped, the software will still be compatible and there will be hot patches with the software that will allow users to continue to use windows 7 and windows 8
if you really wanted to you could most likely get steam to load on a windows xp operating system with installed direct x and VB basic, it would not play 64 bit games, but most 32 bit games would run fine.
you might have a difficult time finding hardware drivers for something like windows xp but there is no reason that a new hardware set up could not run the os, infact installation would take only a few minutes because of the processor speeds and functionality of the hardware.
im curious to try it myself an i just might, take a older desktop windows 7 pc an back grade it to windows xp, my windows 7 computer from 2015 use to run windows xp and at the time i upgraded the OS it played steam and Counterstrike 1.6 just fine.
the other case is just migrate yourself to a linux OS with Steam OS / linux compatiblity you could essentially turn your older PC into a steam Os gaming system.
remember that new updates of software just want system stats, you could upgrade a older pc very cheap with 32 gigs of ram if you can find the 8 gig sticks while the market price is low. you could also look for a memory stick stacker that would allow you to increase the over all number of memory chips with very little speed loss.
but remember with prices droping and over all markets bottoming out you should be able to get a really good system, pretty cheap so it makes upgrading worth it now a days.
Certain older OS cannot support above a certain amount of memory or CPU.
This is also not considering if the programs have a compatible version to run. Steam will not launch on Win 7/8 in 2024. Unless you risk downloading a modified version of the client on and OS that hasn't seen a security update is years, those games will not be playable on that system.
i am not trying to justify any argument just that there could be alternative solutions. if you value your steam account and have spent alot, it only makes sense that you better upgrade to a new operating system to get the most out of the steam account you paid for.
but it is concerning cause what happens when steam no supports steam os, or steams current hardware becomes so outdated that steam drops support for it as well. this potential hardware murdering is a issue that users need to see as something the companies have designed to force users to spend money again.
even when the hardware itself isnt broken, they have designed a way to increase the likeliness you will need to replace it by outdating the software.
Eventually the current Steam OS or Steam Deck will not be supported. Just like how an old Galaxy S8 I have is no longer supported.
That is how hardware and software works. It all is eventually aged out.

This is what happens if you still have Origin installed
Only the minimize/max/exit buttons work
You can't navigate anything behind the pop-over. You can't use the keyboard or mouse or anything to dismiss it. You can't get focus behind it. It will still ironically keep updating Apex Legends but you can't do anything in Origin anymore
This. It's not a question of if, but when.
LOL wut, why would anyone use it?
Also, it's time to upgrade.
You can change everything about Windows 10 now.
OR almost every single thing, depending on your version.
Origin is dead on ALL windows platforms as of a few months ago. If anyone wants to keep using Origin, they need an Intel Mac
