Chat windows close as soon as they are opened

Every time i try to open a chat with my friends, it closes pretty much instantly but is random each time. No other button or window does this, just the chats themselves.

I struggle to accept game invites since i have about half a second to click it once iam on the chat, and i cant send messages of course.

Iam not the only one and i have heard friends tell me the exact same thing

Hello, Ive been trying to find someone else with this issue for weeks. I'm unable to send chat message as the window closes immediately after opening. Sometimes restarting steam fixes it, but not always.

yeah i really cant find anything, seems its a rare problem but is still a problem with steam itself im guessing, i have only had this problem recently in the past few months, and its not always a thing, sometimes it will do it all the time however

Restarting Steam fixes it temporarily for me. No idea what causes it, as it stopped happening after some update and hasn't come back since.
