Audio crashes when opening a Steam friends chat window
This issue may not exclusively be a problem with steam but its unusual in that it randomly started occurring for no known reason.

For context, I bought an audio interface (motu m4) and I have had on and off issues with the audio "crashing" as in it will just stop working until the audio interface is turned off and on. This I believe is mostly an issue with the interface/drivers itself but I have now got it to the point where it rarely ever happens.

However, a couple of weeks ago this issue would begin happening again every single time any kind of chat window in steam is opened, now including the friends window when opened in the steam overlay or when someone sends me a message. I also noticed whenever I open a chat window in the overlay it now suddenly expands to fit the whole screen instead of only a small portion, no idea if this is relevant but just stating it.

I would really be surprised if anyone else had this same issue but I mostly want to know if anyone has been having some kind of issues with steam friends recently to see if there is any correlation with a recent update causing issues or if my setup is just botched.

Bump. I have a motu m2 and it does the same thing. I've just ahd to disable steam overlawy which is a bit annoying. Similar stuff happened with focusrite drivers but less frequently.

Update: Steam friends seems to be even worse now. Both on desktop and overlay the chat window automatically closes after a couple of seconds so I cant even use it to send/read messages. I have already tried reinstalling steam prior to making this post as well which didn't seem to do anything.

Update: Its gotten even weirder now. After windows update, audio doesn't crash every time steam friends is open but for 2 specific friends when I open the chat window in steam overlay it does what I previously described as having the window fit the full screen and then crashing the audio. Thing is, this only occurs when the chat window is expanded to fit a large majority of the screen, if I adjust its size after I open it to be smaller there are no issues.
