Library won't load - Black Screen
Hi everyone,

I'm having this weird problem since last week. Steam library does not load and all I get is a black screen. Every other section works fine.

I tried everything I could find online, short of reinstalling Windows.

Any ideas?

LE:

Managed to get around this changing the scaling settings for steam.exe.
Here are the settings that worked for me.

Turn off GPU acceleration in Settings.

After that update your GPU drivers.
Done that as well. No luck, unfortunately.
If your on the Stable build of the client, switch to Beta, and the opposite if you’re currently on the Beta.

Agreed. I have been having A TON of problems signing in, library, etc. Support was NO HELP, shocking I know. I just switched to the beta and so far (fingers crossed) it's fine. Well, except now I can't sell anything, because apparently I haven't been on in 7 days. WTF?
Good Luck.

Found something that worked for me - In Steam's main executable file, I set the scaling to "Application" in the compatibility tab under "Change High DPI settings" and "High DPI Scaling Override", and I've had no issues for a few days since I've done this change. Seems parts of the UI rendering don't like whatever scaling Windows is applying on my system, and this override seems to resolve that.

Gonna give this a try. Thanks.

I would've never thought to try that. Thanks, it worked.

I fixed it. Check the solution.

I'm having this issue as well, and have for a month or two now (probably the last 2 major updates); I saw a patch note that it was "fixed", but it's still happening. For my system, it only occurs when the system wakes from sleep / stand-by, and it affects the UI elements on the top of the client as well as right-clicking the icon in the taskbar. It renders all of these areas non-interactable and broken, with the only fix I've found to force close and restart the client from task manager.

May or may not be related, but in logs I'm seeing a lot of the following:
"WARNING:dns_config_service_win.cc(700)] Failed to read DnsConfig"
"WARNING: https://steamloopback.host/library.js:2: No active context; finding one"
"ERROR:network_service_instance_impl.cc(264)] Network service crashed, restarting service."
""Uncaught (in promise) Error: [mobx] An invariant failed, however the error is obfuscated because this is a production build.", source: https://steamloopback.host/libraries/libraries~00299a408.js (2)"
"ERROR:backend_impl.cc(1053)] Critical error found -8"

I'm guessing some service is crashing and causing others to fail, or maybe a necessary network call is failing and the client has nothing to fall back on for some reason but without more context I'm really not sure and can only hazard a guess. I'd really like a fix soon, I put my system to sleep daily so I'm basically having to restart Steam every single day, which is a bit annoying.
Check the solution I found, maybe it helps.

Decided to search the forums today for the problem I have been having since at least two updates ago. When Steam loads my Library I get a black bar at the bottom and the buttons in the upper-left are blocked. Maximizing, minimizing, switching to another section of Steam...all no go. The next thing I did...(next since I did not have my coffee yet that day)...was change view modes. Switching to Big Picture and then back to Large fixed my issue. I hope that helps...good luck.

LOL...good morning...well here...navigating to the Downloads screen and then back to the Library also fixes it for me.

Easy fix.:

On the top menu bar, go to Steam > Settings > Interface > uncheck "Enable GPU accelerated rendering in Web views" > Click "OK" > reboot Steam.

Steam/Valve has either broken that part again for many of us, or in my case, they restored the check mark I removed because it's the only thing I found that actually fixes the issue.

This is so much easier than jumping through all the other flaming hoops, and a lot more likely to fix your issue, as well as quickly and easily undone if you wish, it's just a single checkbox.
Also, I've never heard anyone complain that they saw any difference in their Library after doing this.

This did not work in my case, unfortunately.

I had this problem after reinstalling Windows (Months ago, Windows 11, and reinstalled for a completely different reason). It would be great to get this fixed permanently. (Deal with it daily)

To temporarily fix it I go to task manager, find the largest Steam Client Webhelper, and end the task. That restores it for at least a little while.
