Developer removing official servers from game
Are game developers allowed to remove official servers from a game forcing players in that region to play on 300+ ping?

Yup.

Wish I could say otherwise, but unless they hand out dedicated server tools that's how it is.

Pretty bad that Steam allows it, i would understand if the game had an offline mode but without an offline mode it has removed my ability to play the game

People tend to overestimate the reach and power Valve has. Game developers decide how they manage their game. Valve has no say in that.

Run your own server, problem solved. I'm running an own one myself.

I shouldn’t have to run anything. I purchased the game when there was official servers in my region I wouldnt have purchased the game if there was none

What's Valve got to do with it? You bought an online game which are dependent on many factors be remain viable. If a developer cannot afford to provide servers due to huge running costs to maintain the product then they will have to take measures like this. There's been plenty of games in recent years that have had to shut down entirely.

That would be considered a major defect under Australian law so I would be refunded? Not sure you know what you’re talking about

Then got to your local authorities and see what happens.

Google Arma 3 in Australia. Too bad your country doesn’t care

Ah the classic Australian Law card which everyone plays but nobody understands:lunar2019laughingpig:

If a game is financially not viable, where do you expect the refund money to come from? Also if a game is not sustainable because of population then that's not a defect.

Steam is a store. They sell you the game and that's about it.

If you bought a physical game you wouldn't go complaining to Walmart because some servers went down. The same applies to Steam.

Walmart wouldn’t sell a game that couldn’t be played in the region you purchased it in

You already said that you could play it but just had a high ping.

Developers can do whatever they want with the game, it's their property. You only buy the license to use 1 copy of whatever game they produce. So if they chose to change something, that's their right.

Also, if the company goes bust or is in financial trouble, servers will be shut down because people can't pay the expenses. That's not illegal either. It's just having bad luck as a consumer.

Create an own server and it'll be playable

Walmart have sold games which have eventually closed down just like any other store. You buy an online only game in a fringe region then you have to consider things like long-term population or server limitations.
