Steamlink and HDR?
Hi,
I bought a new OLED TV with HDR support, it works fine on XBox and now I tried to get an HDR signal via Steamlink. My PC monitor also supports HDR, so I can enable it in games.
The problem is, my TV doesn't acknowledge the signal as HDR. I tried it with Elden Ring where I can turn HDR on and off in game without any problems. But when I enable HDR my TV doesn't change to HDR and the picture is bluish and dark. Is there any way I can enable HDR on the steamlink? Is there any option I overlooked or some software update I missed? Or can you recommend an app that I can use instead of the steamlink?

It’s one of those things that annoy the hell out of me. Steam link doesn’t currently support HDR streaming. Only moonlight/gamestream. And with the recent announcement of gamestream being discontinued, and then redirecting people to steam link, not a single word or uproar over people requesting HDR supporting. I’d love to switch to Steamlink from moonlight if I could just for the out of the box no troubleshooting experience…but it’s a lost cause it seams.
It's a real pity, now I have to buy the games on XBox although I already own them on Steam to get HDR/Dolby Vision support. The XBox just puts it on all games, even XBox classic and 360 games. And it looks really good on the old ones.
An update to this: Moonlight apparently includes their new streamer called Sunshine, which has kept Moonlight alive despite Nvidia killing Gamestream. If your client supports HDR output you can enable HDR in Moonlights settings and it will still output a HDR stream from PC.
i have never tried to use a tablet as a middle man , you can however use steam link on a tablet with a ps3 or ps4 controller linked to the tablet while steam link is running, you might beable to link the tablet stream to the tv using a cast on the tablet,

if you have a older tablet with a hdmi connection port you have that option or a new usb C tablet you might be able to use a hdmi to usb C adaptor .

this would simulate a steaming box to your tv giving it the ability to interact with steam link an connect onto your TV also usb C dock stations are often also USB C hdmi adaptors

there are several options to try an get something like this working, you might also be able to connect a google chrome cast, i tried via a fire stick but had no luck, a google version with google play store might work but i can't confirm
Not by now. It's kinda bizarre that it's 2023 now but Valve has never considered that. All native HDR games look awful when streamed to another HDR-capable device, making this whole solution basically useless.
Only Steam Deck supports HDR thru steam link for now.

I’m on a steam deck oled and it’s not streaming hdr. Also, as of right now steam link in the deck has crushing black levels regardless if I have hdr enabled or disabled on the host pc.

Crushing as in good or bad?
