For many, they treat it as equivalent to a troll reply on social media that ends in 🤡🤡🤡.

Originally it was an award to imply you made a witty post or that you're spicing up the steam forum with humor.

It's now a chinese player based meme that started with the game "mirror 2" if you look at the screenshot section you'll see it. Here's one of the earliest references to it:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2870013632

They even made a clown mod for the workshop.

Here's a actual workshop in game model of the meme:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2872203919

Ppl got mad there was no porn in the game and the simps started spamming ppl with jester awards in attempt to insult them. They began spamming just about every part of the forums with it including reviews and profiles, and now it is a thing. In truth, if someone gives you that award it means you triggered them, and now they are butthurt. Wear that award as a badge of honour my friend.

The more clown awards you get, the more likely it is you are telling the truth about something because the truth hurts people's feelings and that's how they vent on steam forums, lol.

Lastly, you can read this thread, it validates everything I just said here:

To be honest, I don't really think it has anything to do with the game you've mentioned or its Chinese playerbase. "Clown" has been kind of an online buzzword for a while now and it's especially prominent in social media and on topics pertaining to politics or the current social climate. The Jester award happens to be the closest thing to a clown award (and really, it looks more like a clown than a jester anyway).

You're right the clown has been an insult for ages, but read the forum link I posted lol. I tell you the truth I am not lying! And the chinese don't refer to it as a jester they call it joker, and it looks like a clown too.

DId you not read the thread lol. A guy actually admits he gave another poster a clown award because he got angry about the post he made. Or is you're attention span that of a goldfish. I didn't see people spamming that clown award until 2022. It existed before 2022.

People have been using the jester on posts they find stupid for long before that game even existed, they've done so since the addition of Steam awards. That thread doesn't prove that it started with that game.

you can tell people to read stuff about similar stuff....

but what does that have to do with how
individuals experience the jester
award on steam that dont know about the other stuff.

when you look at what people post to farm jesters
they are always bait posts of sorts.... i dont like the
jester and similar jester farming spam

should i post a wiki on the history of valve...

By the way, if you don't believe me, here's a thread from all the way back in 2021 discussing how the Jester award is perceived:

https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/12/3004430047209268590/

One user says this:
"It's like.. getting called a clown, except it sticks on you forever.
I usually like to give it to those who really despise the steam awards lol, it's a way of teaching someone a punishment :batman:"

Their post is from January 3rd, 2021.

Here's another thread from 2021 complaining about Jester awards being used to be mean or to show disagreement:

https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/10/3044985412467586584/

It definitely did not start with the Chinese playerbase of a game that's already relatively obscure. There are countless more threads like that from before that game even released, but there's two examples for you.

Okay, I believe you, you're a bit OCD about this though. It's just an award its not that big of a deal lol. It's just the first I really seen it come in force.

I just showed you that it's been in use like that for a while, no need to go to unnecessary insults for the 2nd time in this thread.

Yo kinda off topic, but I was looking for a way to ask this question and accidentally sent you a friend request, sorry about that! But I just wanted to ask about some of the animated artwork on your profile. It looks cool and I was wondering if you animated some of that stuff yourself?

Award farming is so cringe
PootisMayo 2023년 3월 20일 오전 9시 11분
The awards are the biggest sin of Steam.
ShadowShifterMarlith 2023년 3월 20일 오전 9시 15분
I'll just combine the 1st few posts together, & say that it's meant as an insult,
but some people like to farm it for points, while others like to stalk Accounts
full of jesters so they can buy the Accounts.
