maybe his account is hacked
would not recommend clicking on it ....
How could that benefit them in ANY way if it was real?
If you think logical about stuff like this there is no other option except it being a scam or phishing attempt.
BTW the account of your "friend" is most likely already compromised and has been taken over by the scammers.
Thats how they operate, scam a account, send scam links to all on the friend list , then do the same with the new accounts they scammed that been dumb enough to click the link, rinse and repeat.
You're right. I was also skeptical from the start, but was curious nonetheless. I know stupid of myself.
Clicking on the link will open Steam where you should log in. Nothing happens just by clicking on it as long as I don't enter any data, right?
bro if that link is a scam user might steal your computer details (password, address etc)even without login
JUST DONT CLICK IT if u r not a computer expert
my friend has got hacked on steam 5 times also his instagram and facebook got hacked cuz he clicked random links
and most of the time it was chinese or from russia so avoid unknown or sketchy links.
Yeah, was stupid of me. I hope nothing happens.
Fake. It only looks like Steam but it is not. Pay attention to the security certificate and the exact URL.
yes you are right. When I took a closer look, I noticed that it didn't say steam, but steanmncommunity
darkcrystal is right check if the link has spellling errors or something
like steeamcommunty instead of steamcommunity
this scams are going on discord aswell from a long time now....
Edit: But a password change cant hurt, better safe then sorry.
Also do a scan with malwarebytes or similar to check that nothing was downloaded to your PC from that fake site.
I would recommend changing password and hopefully you using steam gaurd aswell
If your inventory is stacked up
Transfer it to a spare account if u have cuz from what I have seen in the discussions forum they clean your inventory and your wallet funds etc
So just to be on the safe side...
2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
3. Change passwords from a clean computer
4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
5. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)
if the account is compromised, trading is the one thing you should not do. the scammers have bots that will cancel and recreate trades to send the items to the scammers accounts.
