* Mac still uses Origin, so still has the full functionality of that client, including being able to view CD keys (even for PC games).
I wouldn't know. Vast majority of EA games that that would apply to were never sold in my region on Steam, only directly through Origin and non-Steam authorised resellers, like GamersGate and Direct2Drive. But the OP doesn't specifically state Steam bought games, and people finding this topic down the line with the search function or via a search engine, may find the information useful. So it's worth noting. (And yes, I had to install Origin on a mac to retrieve a key earlier this year.) Plus, Steam isn't consistent with its display of CD keys either (and who knows if the functionality here will disappear one day with another unnecessary bloatware "improvement".)
My advice, once you've found your CD keys, write them down--even the ones issued by Steam.
I mean only the EA origin launcher where you need to put in all your user info over again so you can play...a old single player game.
Heard the dragon age 3 also still needs that because of "features" that should be in the game to begin with like inquisitor fortress mode or whatever it is called.
I never had to put in my user info all over again unless you mean a username and password which wasn't an issue. The app started right up after entering that info. A few minutes of my time wasn't that much an effort for my protection.
It is unfortunate that you have to do it this way purchasing a game through Steam for an EA game but things are never that simple. I got another EA game on the Epic launcher and have to do the same thing. At least it shows the game installed on EA even if you aren't running the game through that particular launcher.
FYI: I own DA: Origins, DA 2, and Inquisition as well as Mass Effect 2 on the EA App (bought them originally through the Origin app so I had no choice switching over). I used a CD key for Origins and DA 2 with no issue on the Origin app there as well. Luckily for me I didn't have to worry about a CD key when purchasing Inquisition. Purchasing off Steam was simply a matter of connecting the game through the EA app and it showed up on the EA app with the word Steam written on the game copy there.
Some people i have spoken to in the past told me the app also slowed their PCs down due some weird firmware or so. Is that fixed a bit? Also it works if the app goes offline because of server issues or similar i guess?
Meaning: if you play your solo game and the origin client goes offline for some reason you can still continue like on steam or does it mess with your cloud or whathaveyou?
You just have to download EA Desktop and log into your EA account. All your previous games you had on Origin are all there. There was a time during the beta where not all games showed up, but this is no longer the case
Note that people have been functionaly lying about anything EA has come out with for literally a decade. There are still people who believe the Origin client 'scanned your taxes' desipte the person who put out the 'proof' of this showed they were simultaneously incompetent and were also maliciously lying about it.
The EA Desktop app is 'fine'. My only real annoyance with EA Desktop and Uplay is that it frequenly logs me out of the client if a client update gets installed. But otehr than that again its 'fine'. At least I can actually view my library on EA Desktop with the 80 games I have. Which is more than I can say for my 400 game Epic library which is functionally unusable to use if you hav emore than a dozen games
I mean at least it loads at some kind of relatively decent speed on EA Desktop and you can at least see the game's name even if the image isn't fully loaded
On the Epic client you get nothing unless the thumbnail loads.
It means the Epic client basically dies on you entirely if your internet dies just because teh thumbnail won't load
Uplay is okay. All the others dont get it, or forgot.
All these different brand names, services, and platforms are all very confusing. Nobody understands it anymore.
It may or it may not work. There are no guarantees or warranties. All these platforms, they may all sell malfunctioning games, or they might stop working at some point, and you cannot get your money back.
