Kickstarter games coming to Steam
What are you thoughts on Kickstarter games being allowed on Steam that do not have the features promised on Kickstarter? Or Kickstarter games sold for full price on Steam that are clearly still in the Early Access stage? Or Kickstarter games that have features promised as stretch goals that were met by backers but the stretch goals are not in the actual release of the game? What should Steams policy be as to monitoring Kickstarter games?

Their policy is that customer's can decide to buy it or not on the store.

When you buy a kickstarter game - or early access game - you're informed that the game is not yet complete, might not be or it might develop in a way you do not approve of.

If you despite this warning buys it to support the developers, you've made a choice and are bound by it.

If you don't want to accept those terms, don't buy it before you've seen the completed product. Simple.

That's not how Kickstarter works. The developers give you a Steam key for the game. The Kickstarter says features A and B will be in the game. If you pay extra the stretch goal C will be in the game. You apply your Steam key and features A, B, and C are not in the game. Should Steam allow that to happen on their platform?

Just don't support games on kickstarter if you are scared devs won't fulfill their promises. If game is gonna be good, why would it be banned just for being kickstarted? And if it's not gonna be good, then we return to not supporting games on kickstarter.

Is adding a Kickstarter or Early Access game to your cart and clicking confirm mandatory? No, it is a "voluntary action on your part" as is pledging on a Kickstarter website.

Secondly do AAA games not have missing features or where developers make wild promises which do not make the final game? Yes, those games exist. Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem to name two.

A publisher not delivering on a promised game feature is not unique to Kickstarter games. There have been fully released AAA games that failed to provide some promised mode, dlc, part 3, etc. Why should Kickstarter games be held to a higher standard?

Also, Kickstarter is upfront that any goods promised during a campaign are not guaranteed. When you pledge for a KS campaign, you are providing financial support for the KS creator's project. It's not a marketplace.

Wow. I guess I should Kickstart a video game. Get a bunch of money for nothing on Kickstarter. Convince Steam to let me sell it here. Make a bunch more money from Steam and then disappear. I have been wasting my life going to work all these years.

With how saturated and tainted the Kickstarter market is, you won't make anything.

Also, Kickstarter can(and have before) shut down campaigns with enough evidence and refunded the money.

Thats between the developer and kickstarter. Steam has nothing to do with the promises made on other people's platforms.

In all honesty, I kinda wish they did. But I know it's impossible and irrational.

I only say so due to a game that I bought in EA that was funded by a Kickstarter that got 'released' with a bunch of features missing. The devs even gave the code to a modding group to continue development.

Luckily, it was only $20.

Yeah but that would be a can of worms that Steam would be hard pressed to deal with. I mean if steam refuses to release the game then that can be objectively worse as then the kickstarters can't get the game they were promised....

Especially as not everyone is in agreement over changes or feature adjustments.
