Why is there suddenly so many posts asking for Ukrainian translations?
I've asked this before in a few game specific forums on steam, but never got a reply.

Go to any recent or new game, and there is a huge likelihood that you will see posts asking for a Ukrainian translation for the game. Now, normally I wouldn't mind and just pass on, but this is in every game for the most part. In addition, I never once saw one of these topics before the war.

Is it some sort of trolling attempt? If it is, it's in really poor taste, considering the war and all.

On the other hand, if it turns out to be genuine, then why now? Why didn't people ask before the war?

Likely a feeling of ethnic and nationalist pride. After all, they are being attacked fighting for survival. Unfortunately, i think it may be curtains for their leader, and peace talks to end the conflict to salvage what's left. At that point you'll see these requests begin to fade.

Have you considered asking those people?

Ukranians are tired of having to use Russian language in their games if they don't know English or another language the game supports.

Because it's the "in" thing and making posts about it usually gets dozens of awards. It's just another award farming method. Just like how posts about "Will Valve ban Russia from Steam" were getting posted a lot and getting awarded last year.

It's just trolling for awards. Nothing more, nothing less.

Seems to be in poor taste if you ask me.

Honestly speaking, the whole awards system valve implemented is just a way to incentivize trolling, which is why I hate it so much.

I confirm that I've seen this trend going up and up.

It isn't the only similar one tho. But right this moment it is clearly the most prevalent.

It annoy me just as much as that critically low amount of people trying to push single player games to be turned into multiplayer games for some reason (and there seem to be at least one thread about this in every single game forum... ugh)... But my logic in this is that it is often requested in EA games or games which are bound to have more content and I just know a dev focusing on turning their game around to make MP happen is very time and resource consuming. I'd rather they focus on actually improving the base game itself. Not to mention the fact that there is nothing inherently wrong with a SP only game, etc.

For a single language translation tho? That's commonly done by volunteers and assuming that the game can already support more languages (which is probably a trivial amount of work in comparison)... So I usually just end up ignoring them.

I guess if there was enough people pushing for it it would gain traction? But it seems that there is never actually that many people asking for such feature to begin with.

This whole situation is kind of weird.

Before the war in Ukraine: extremely rare to see people on the steam forums ask for a Ukrainian translation.

Now that the war in Ukraine is currently ongoing: This exact thread asking for Ukrainian localisation in every single new game forum on steam.

also most the people who made it DONT CARE, DONT EVEN SPEAK THE LANGUAGE only farming award FACT

Its similar to people pretending to be trans and making threads about it (in starfield forum for example but believe that one got deleted) and then having the communist/stalin flag icon thing (the hammer and sickle) as the celebrating end to their post. Clearly not trans, and person got 100s of awards before post got deleted and they got banned.

Very wrong to do and ruins it for those that are actually trans (or ukranian). BUT they often get away with it because they can't take the chance the person is actually really trans (or again, ukranian) until its clearly a troll/award farm attempt.

Ruins it for everyone else.

Unsurprisingly, Russian stuff isn't terribly popular nowadays (for obvious reasons), that includes the language. Ukrainians are generally perfectly capable in understanding/communicating in Russian but due to current events, they'd rather not to.
