"wtf did I buy this game" category - I had it long time ago, but erased it... I thought that it is better not to see constantly growing figures there.
I guess I have easily around 50-70 games that I should have never purchased. And yes, most of them had very low cost... I've spent way too much money on cheap games ;-P. Buying games on sales is a drug for me... But I've managed to get few gems. Quite recently I've purchased Othercide for like 2 EUR or something like this. Played few minutes, loved it, made few friends to buy it... those friends have spent around 50-60 hours and they love it, I still didnt had time to take better attempt, but still, game is a great find.
Prey, Journey, Inside, Antichamber, I'm looking at you
Right into my .NOPE. category they go.
Funnily enough, I rarely have such problems with games from deep dark indie pits of doom. Maybe that's because it's easier to see them for what they are and manage expectations accordingly.
Then there is another handful of games that just are in a permanent ignore state that is equivalent to the category you are asking about. And they tend to have earned the hidden status by having crap like save eating bugs that didn't get fixed and the devs up and ran off.
But I learned a lesson.
This is how I do it too. I spend a lot of time looking into a game, looking at reviews and gameplay, etc. as much as possible unless for some reason I really trust I'm going to like the game and don't want to be spoiled anything about it and want to go in completely blind. But that is really rare and usually only with franchises or dev studios that I really really love and have been consistent with game quality.
I don't buy games as often nowadays and when I do they're usually on a deep discount or the normal price is low because the game is older or an indie game, so even if I don't end up liking the game that much at least I haven't spent that much money on it.
So not too many things I have buyer's remorse on.
