Where are all the good long term games?
I miss having games where once you beat it, it wasn't the end. The game would see new features updates daily and new items and things would be added. Now everything feels like a 1 off experience. It gets redundant to keep playing games knowing that it takes x hours to beat and then your done. What ever happened to unique experiences that you can repeat and not get bored. Things that would keep you playing after you beat it. i miss caring about my character for a couple years...such as like animal crossing. New horizons could've done better but it was nice while it lasted. I miss me and my gf playing animal crossing whether it was January or September. We would check the shops, build new things and just always have something to do. These types of games are so rare..in which you can care about your world or character for a long period in your life..come back to it and get an hour of joy whenever. But everything just feels so linear nowaday and nothing is made to give you this feel anymore. Even when DLC is supposedly coming out, it takes forever and when it does it only adds what 7 more hours to the game. The last time I played a game that was live service or persistent was years ago. This is miserable.

It could be life or farming sim, rpg dungeons, shooter, idc I just want a game that I can play an hour or two a day for a year. Ill dish out money for season pass or DLC or content that can keep the game fresh.

Well off to good ol work, be back later to see the monstrosity i created.

Those 3 have good replay-ability through either mods or just different characters/choices.

I've played through Divinity Original Sin 2 at least 3 times just to ♥♥♥♥ around with different classes. You can make the game a completely different game by playing an undead class/character that requires you to heal with poison and wear a mask when talking to NPCs or they may just straight up attack you.

Monster Hunter World kinda fits, I am still returning to my character after years on and off to do stuff.

All kinds of RPGs, 4X, Grand Strategy, RTS (skirmishes), City builders, sandbox games on the Steam store. And other stores.

So many infinitely repayable games out there! Always have been, nothing changed. But sure, some games have a beginning and an end so just stay away from those.

It kinda seems like you're looking for something more like an MMO, or even a farming/crafting/social sim. Check out Stardew Valley, Coral Island, Dinkum, Sun Haven, My Time at Portia/Sandrock, etc.

Did something happen to Animal Crossing where you cannot play it any more?

At the end of the day, you just need to look in the right genre - primarily sandbox games. There are literally hundreds of games that are open ended and have no "end" to them.

Pumpkin Days
Stardew Valley
Farming Simulators
Cities: Skylines

Just to name a few.

-Skyrim with mods gave me 1000s of hours
-Minecraft (java) with mods
-Cities skylines 2 is coming soon
-Starfield with mods will likely give me even more hours than skyrim with mods
-MMOs (personally don't like MMOs but its an option)
-Most moddable games in general will give near endless playability, but its rare for a company to support modding to the degree bethesda does
-sims games even the older ones with mods

If you really want, you can play any game for years.

There's speedruns, new techniques, finding new bugs or glitches, made-up challenges, mods etc.

I feel but you but story driven action adventure games arent my thing. And I feel like most people miss the thing about endgame really not more replay ability and doing the same things. Every day in animal crossing felt different!

Perhaps starfield with mods will be it! I played starbound and got over 1k hours with mods.

lol fair point, but we really need that endgame and longevity in the game itself.

Yeah I kinda am..but mmorpg as a genre are failing. There is not many new ones that are successful. So just waiting for the new one thats going to be the modern wow I guess.

Plenty of good old ones but ive had my time. And the new ones like new world or lost ark are just bad imo.
