Curious what you guys think about the validity of this 1 day forum ban from OBS forum
I was browsing the forums last night and realized I had never checked out the OBS forum so I just went into see what was happening, what kind of problems people were having, and I stumbled across a post. And I didnt have an answer, so I figured id make a joke and help bump his post up so he could get a bit of attention to it while having a laugh.

Was it my best joke? Probably. Im not that funny, but I just posted it and then was instantly banned for a day for what was my very first post on this forum.

Im curious what your guys' thoughts are. Are the mods overreacting or is this something that needs to be banned from the forums? They already responded twice telling me it violates their rules but they havent said what rule was broken or what I should do to fix it, they just said it violated something. If you dont mention what is wrong or what is expected, it sounds like they dont any change to occur, but then why ban?

It reads as follows.

Steam has nothing to do with OBS. They have their own forum rules and you should take the time to read them. If you disagree with their ban take it up with them.

At the end of the day any company had complete rights to run their online space how they see fit. Just to note, back when I was hosting forum spaces, you would have gotten banned for a month for a non-constructive bump post. If you did it again, you would have been permaed.

And they told you exactly why your post got you the ban. Couldn't be any more clear cut and correct.

Its a Steam support member that banned me and replied to me. So how is that not a Steam issue? It says right on the screen shot "banned by a member of Steam support." It doesnt mention OBS forum moderator banning me.

Also, im asking for peoples opinions as you can see in what I wrote. If you dont have one, why reply? Should you be banned now for not answering my question and being off topic?

Valve plays hands off in developer forums, even when they have Steam mods do the moderation for the forum. Dev forums can, and do have their own sets of rules. And I gave you what my opinion was in no uncertain terms in my post.

It literally says "Banned by Steam support" So Steam support = OBS moderator?

It also says this content isnt allowed on Steam. It doesnt say its not allowed in OBS.

Teach me please.

Did your reply help the OP resolve their issue? Did it even relate to their issue? That's a no on both accounts, making your post unhelpful and off topic. The reasoning and ban were correctly applied.

Pro Tip: Internet Coomon Sense 101. Humor is subjective and its better to assume jokes are only funny to you before posting them to a general, and unfamiliar audience.

Developers have the option to use Steam moderators and support in order to mod their forums, instead of volunteer or in house mods. When that happens, the moderation is done according to the devs rules, no different than if they were in house mods. It's just that the communication let's you know whether it's via Steam mods or in house mods.

Jokes are bannable if one doesnt find them funny. Got it. Thats extremely healthy. Thanks for your input! I will never make a joke on the forum again. (Even though on other forums its not only acceptable but very common)

But you didnt answer my question. It says "Steam Support" and you said I was banned by OBS. Just curious why are you telling me that Steam has nothing to do with OBS when Steam is the one getting involved?

You got banned for being off topic.

And I did answer you in my previous post.
I see no issue with that 24 hour ban. You were disruptive and provided nothing that helped OP.

Ive been on here for 15 years, joked in every forum Ive ever been in. LOL

Okay! Well I did ask. Its silly how many of you guys think im a criminal for making a joke. It hurt nobody, it delayed no response from anyone with an answer, nobody has still helped this person and everyone is just fine.

It was reported for being off topic, which it definitely was and acted upon appropriately.

Some people don't like off topic stories when asking the users for help.

without knowing the joke

or your history with moderation

my opinion on it would be that it is a bit harsh to ban you for a first offense

i got a deserved warning for spam on board that had no posts that i wanted to test

if you have had warnings or bans before

it could be that you crossed that line and this was the next step

Fair. From what I see - If we banned everything that someone didnt like, Im not sure wed have a community left. Were here to play video games after all, which is fun/entertainment. I didnt think games and humor were that far off and had to be completely excluded since I see humor everywhere on here, some of which I dont like too.

I suppose I should report this guy Luis Molina then, and start reporting everyone that does the same thing, to help keep the forums safe from not perfect responses, and that will help keep the forum conversations sterile and efficient:

Well, this was my very first post in this forum. I guess I come from other forums where the vibe is more chill and people like to have some laughs, and people bump posts alot and get in huge arguments and stuff and its just accepted because its an FPS game with high stakes and lots of angry gamers that lose their loot and rage post.

The only time Ive ever had a ban was in the Rust forum which isnt hard to do because everyone is angry all the time for the most part. I took a screenshot of it somewhere, but basically I said "Can you not read?" as part of a response to someone who was being a jerk and ignoring my response because they didnt like it. And that was a ban too, which seemed harsh. Asking someone if they can not read....I mean, its not a compliment, but its not really that bad. It seems overly sensitive for a wargame.

The second one, they overturned and admitted it was unfair. They did it fairly quickly too, I was impressed at how fast they responded and were able to rectify the situation.
