Ubisoft Terminating ‘Inactive’ Accounts
https://www.pcgamer.com/your-ubisoft-account-can-be-suspended-and-subsequently-permanently-deleted-for-inactivity-taking-your-games-library-with-it/

Maybe if they made a good game once in a while, users would actually have an incentive to use their diabolical services. This is a stark, dark reminder of the perils of digital ownership where your entire purchase history can be nuked because you haven’t logged in for X period or for other reasons without any notice whatsoever and this goes for other services too.

Valve surely cannot tolerate these absurd terms forced upon their users especially when it can impact titles bought through the Steam Store. Users may be left with dead licences and due to the archaic account linkage, it will give users an extended headache trying to untie a dead account linked to Steam if they wish for some reason to rebuy or purchase new Ubisoft titles on a new account going forward.

I’m grateful that Valve let’s sleeping accounts lie but things could change in time and terms could tighten. A good starting point would be to not let companies set dangerous precedents like Ubisoft are doing and Valve should step up and side with their community on this one especially against a company that came crawling back so shamefully because they need the business that Steam has.

Do the games purchased trough Steam still remain in your "invetory"?
It's a verrry suicidal move PR wise and even in a legal way to deny access to purchases you have made just because you haven't bothered/had time to play them?

If the game has been tied (played at least once) to your UBI account, you should be safe.

I was just now looking for a game to spend money on and saw reference to this and immediately steered away from the game and company for ever more. Funny thing is, I was going to buy the game until I saw more than one post about this.

There is also another company that wants your phone number and I shied away from that too. Forever.

What I did notice though, is that both of these sleazy and slimy companies are very large and am now going to be very cautious with any large company from now on. They think they can do what ever they want.

What a massive nothingburger smear.

Ubisoft is scummy sure, but cleaning up accounts that never spent money, have been inactive for 5+ years, and never played much in the first place is hardly major news

Sad thing is it’s working if posts like Blue Pencil’s are any indication, people avoiding their games due to misleading clickbait.

I got a email from Google saying the same thing this morning there must be some new laws somewhere about deleting dead accounts. Ubisoft are french might be a eu thing.

And it's great for recruiting the ignorant to further smear the service.

They confirmed that if you choose to delete your Ubisoft account, you won't be able to play games purchased through Steam.

The article is clickbait, they only delete accounts without any paid games. So you will always have what you paid for

If that was the real reason, the adequate action would be to ask if someone does NOT want the account to stay.
And you can bet if the company would lose money by doing anything else, they would choose this way too. With the same reasoning.
No it wouldn't because there's no positive action required on the users part to retain the account. They could easily say they didn't receive the email so Ubisoft retaining their info is in breach of the law.
Its the opposite of what you say, ubisoft expects you to do something to keep it.

Its in breach of law to remove something you paid for just because you havent used it in a while.
If they need to keep data to uphold the accessibility of that purchase, its not "not required data".

It is absurd to believe, that someone would have a problem with having access to a game after 6 months inactivity.

If ubisoft had to pay for what they do, they would do something else. That is a fact.
Coincidently what they do costs only the customer. The worst, i mean best (according to ubisoft) that could happen, is the game had to be bought again. What a coincidence........

Paid games are not being removed, your account will not be deleted if you have paid content or an active subscription on it.

The only accounts at risk are ones that have not been used in 5 years or more, have no paid content, and had low activity even when they were used.

I really wish OP would edit the title and body of their post and stop misleading people.

Ubisofts reply talks about games. Why is that? And its certainly not 5 years, but rather 6 months

Are we just ignoring posts 78 and 94 that both show Ubisoft’s explicit outlines for what qualifies as an inactive account?

Or even the Ubisoft help page itself? https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/help/account/article/closure-of-inactive-ubisoft-accounts/000079595?isSso=true&refreshStatus=noLoginData

In most countries you can sue Ubi for deleting accounts with investments regardless of their ToS or EULAs. In the case of any large shared jurisdiction, it can also be a class action or that by any other name. In that case, local assets of Ubisoft within such jurisdiction may be seized by the court order even if their headquarters in EU refuse to pay. Is there a Ubi office in your country? If there is and your account with investments has been deleted, then sue their asses until they are forced to close local offices.

It's been done to Google, surely it can be done to Ubi. :ThinkingAnne:
